Just that if you poison n the mice and rats you poison the cats
Yep, I know. DH lost cats to a neighbor's poison before we met. That's why our cats are indoor cats and we place the bait judiciously where they are not allowed. We also when we had the early problems, regularly policed the house for any dead mice. As strange as it sounds, we never had a cat touch one if they found it before we did. They would sit and stare at it, maybe tentatively touch it with a paw and wait for us to dispose of it. Did they somehow sense it met an unnatural death? Nah, I think they are just fat and lazy.

Now we do not have any bait in the house at all. If we see a mouse, it is usually in the shop where the cats are not allowed.

Don't worry. We wouldn't let anything happen to our furry children.

We all get to do things every now and then on a quest
how to dispose of a large style garbage can of cracked corn that had mold in it
do not want to use it on the birds but not dog or cats either

Outside, I use bait stations to keep the dogs and cats out. squirrels can still get into them though. I do not really care about squirrels though.

bait stations worked very well for me... and all I have are ground squirrels the more that go.... the better. I used one bite. and was on a seek and destroy mission with rats the size of squirrels....

And Oh yeah... I only found one or two out where it could be gathered up and disposed of... the rest are probably still in the house .... walls and attic....

Last one I cleaned up was the size of a bedroom slipper....

two dogs no issues.... but I tell you its more important to get the rodents under control than contracting Hantavirus.

I had a neibour poisonous some mic and watched my two cats die rough deaths eating everything they could and starving to death I found them on Friday and before Monday morning they were both gone! I said something to them they pretty well told me to shove it that my cats brought the mice around!! Wish I could have let them try some of the poison they threw out.

Irresponsible use of vermin poisons is inexcusable. Period. We use the Tom Cat bait traps also. Well worth the investment. I hate ground squirrels, therefore I do not waste poison on them. I use a scoped .22 or scoped .17 on them instead.

We were infested with the nasty little things at our home back in IL. They completely undermined our front yard. One night we came home from the office to see the little devils scatter like cockroaches when we pulled in the drive way (we lived rural, btw). I'd had a particularly bad day at work and without a word, went into the house and still dressed in office clothes hid behind a bush and waited for the furry little roaches to come back out. I think I picked off three that night. It got to be my habit to come home from work and de-stress by sniping ground squirrels. When I got tired of the .22 I grabbed my .17 and used it. I got so good I could pick them off at 100 feet. When I cleared our yard, I went to work on the cemetery next door where our infestation had migrated from. By the end of summer there were a lot less ground squirrels in our neighborhood and I avoided an ulcer.

As for mice, they are one of the main carriers for Lyme disease. Another reason to hate them.
