The Old Folks Home

I think Calif. had one up on the other states for schools back in the mid 70's. My jr. high had 12" fence with barbed wire around it and they locked the gates to keep you in and the world out.
It felt like a prison!
I wore jeans to Deb.

Truly?

Barbed wire?

Were you next to a prison?

Those look amazing. :drool

Meanwhile our snow is almost all gone. Our high yesterday was only 42.

I am still walking over ice and snow to get to the front door...most of my drive is dirt, mush, and sink hole...

Mostly snow still all over...but ground is finally showing at building edges and such.

Quote: Those were the days. I know some in Calif. county area's they used to have guns hanging in thier back windshield and no one flinched.

Quote: No there were no prison's around but the gangs were all around in Los Angeles even in the mid 70's. And the schools would go to huge fights against each other and the schools would go into
lock down.
Wow, blackberries! Out wild one's don't ripen till Aug.
Ours ripen early here.

I agree they've gone way too far with the anti-gun nonsense. When a water pistol can get a kid expelled as if they were carrying a firearm, that's pure nonsense. Empty shells in a locked vehicle out in the parking lot pose no threat, and once again, the nonsense rages on.

Chickadoodles, you can still see them around here in Missouri. Not unusual to be behind a truck and comment about the nice hunting rifle hanging on the gun rack in the back window. In fact, we have open carry here.

Getaclue, I agree with you 100%. We passed nonsense and went straight to silly a long time ago. Children are being indoctrinated in school from kindergarten that guns are evil. The people who use them to harm other people aren't evil, but the guns are even if they are being used for self protection. Once again, it takes a few bad apples to rot the whole barrel.

Not my normal thread...but.

When Spook was in high school, many many kids drove
pickup trucks, shotguns hanging in the rear glass. Park in
the school lot, park on the street with windows down, doors
unlocked.

A way of life here. Rural town, farm kids. We handled guns
daily and managed not to shoot anybody. Grew up hunting,
gun and bow.

The gun wasn't the problem.

Hi Spook

Thanks Scg and Penny. Hopefully it won't be to long before you will get some. Scg I hope your snow melts and it warms up.

Do either of you have a good blackberry pie recipe? I have tried more times that I care to mention other recipes and they never turn out good.

I have an amazing recipe for blueberry pie and homemade crust...

Way back in highschool..as a senior...we dressed up as what we wanted to be when we grew up.

I came to school with a beat up hat, very old work clothes and a machete. A real one. I think someone else brought a rifle.

No one blinked an eye.

By the way, I was "land rich and dirt poor"

So you're saying you grew up to be what you wanted to?

I'm pretty sure I never wanted to be a pharmacist. Still not sure, some days.
