@Chickisoup, @Wickedchicken6 @Cynthia12--Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Chickisoup, I feel the same way. I chose disease resistant NPIP breeder chicks over vaccinated lesser quality hatchery birds that had been vaccinated because I wanted better quality birds. My bio security is as good as it can get with Amish all around us along with free range birds, none of which are on our property. No body goes in my coop or run except my husband or myself nor do we go in any one else's pens or handle their birds. In fact there hadn't been chickens on our property for over 6 years when we got our flock. I'll never know where it came from but I still can't stop asking myself what I missed. It's very frustrating.

When I started putting things together yesterday, I stood out with my birds and found myself apologizing to them as I handed out slices of apple. I feel like I've really let them down somehow. They didn't care, they just wanted me to hand out the apple slices a little faster.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I learned as they gobbled down apple that chickens don't hold grudges...as long as the treats hold out.

Don't be hard on yourself. It could have been a wild bird that carried it from a contaminated flock, to yours. I've also heard of it being spread through the feed store. The ones down here have the chicks out for sale now too. I won't go near them, for fear of contaminating my flock. It is better NOT to vaccinate though, at least until they develop a better vaccine.

No, they don't hold a grudge, but some of the flockmates may mourn the loss of a member for a few days.

Thanks @getaclue I need that.

It's pouring rain here yet. I think they are calling for up to 3 inches by this time tomorrow. Everything is soggy and the internet connection sux. It's taking me almost 5 minutes just to load this page.

Oh well, guess I'll get a lot of house work done today........or not. INSP has all day westerns on today. Bonanza, The Virginian, High Chaparral and BBC has Star Trek Voyager on all day. Might just grab a jug of ice tea, some snack crackers and camp out in front of the TV!

@superchemicalgirl Whatcha workin on this weekend?

Today I cleaned the house this morning.
Then drove an hour each way to pick up bees. Hived the bees.
Cleaned the goats out. The ground is starting to be a solid versus a semi-solid state so I also scraped the ground in there.
Trimmed the goat hooves.
Cleaned the ducks out. Scraped the duck enclosure (I piled it with raked leaves last fall, so that when it's solid-ground spring it is compressed leaves with about an inch of poo. Moved the duck house to the other side of the coop.
Moved the dirt that the rats had piled up back to where it belonged.
Just stopped for a lunch break.

The afternoon festivities include chopping a tree down that's broken and leaning over the driveway and cutting it into firewood. I planted my onions yesterday. Have to hoe the kitchen garden and get the celery in but I fear that will have to wait until tomorrow because I'm already exhausted, sore and I smell indescribably bad. Tomorrow I've planned on starting my warm weather seeds, getting a haircut, transplanting my bigger tomato plants into larger pots and cleaning the basement. On Monday I have to take the cat to the vet, get the vet to come out for the goat (the vet won't see the cat here), plus I have Cemetery Committee in the afternoon. At some point I also should write my resume and I need to open the hives back up to be sure the queens are released.

As far as sewing I've got a couple works in progress but not sure realistically if I'll be able to sew this weekend. I started an applique wall hanging for a friend, and that needs to be done ASAP. I have a block of the week (9 block) that I need to sash and then quilt although I think it's hideous so I am not sure if that will help me finish it (and get it out of here faster) or not. I have another quilt that I've pieced the top but I'm not sure how I'm going to quilt it, yet, so it sits upstairs on the floor in the guest bedroom. I also have my row by row that I need to sash and quilt. I also started some hand embroidery the last time we were 16 hours without power. I am trying not to start anything new until I have all of those done.

This is my (Maine) Row By Row (trying to match up sashing online since I couldn't find what I needed locally).

This is the quilt top in solitary confinement upstairs. Not sure how I am going to quilt it and honestly, after sewing the borders together over the course of a few weeks I think that quilt and I should spend some time apart.

Edited to remove the hideous 9 blocker
