The Old Folks Home

Morning everyone and Happy Sunday!

Momma Sparkle and her baby, Lucky are doing well, still no pip on the last egg. Given that it is a bantam egg and everyone else hatched on day 19/20 I'm starting to suspect that this little one may not have made it and Sparkle is going to have just one chick to mother. I saw a brief movement in the egg yesterday but no peeps. Candling revealed a chick completely filling the egg which probably means that little chick is rapidy running out of 0-2 or already has and the melee between the two hens damaged it somehow so it couldn't pip/hatch.

Plan is to pull the egg and put it in the incubator for 24 hours later today so momma can see to baby.

Busy Busy Busy Sunday here!

Good news on momma and baby. I hope the last one will appear soon.

Got 2 more blocks done today. Going to be cutting it close to get it done before Yosemite.

Thanks, guys. I am having a bit of fun with it. Because I am not fond of the sampler, I'm using it as stitching practice.
The only big problem with stitching like this is the quilt isnt soft and cuddly, kinda makes it like cardboard. Very stiff from the close quilting.

I can understand how that could happen need to send my favorite I kept for me is a ragtime quilt of inside out in some areas I put cotton batting but have not had a winter cold enough to use it I did wash it and my basting of the batting did not hold so need to open it back up to fix that

I've always wanted to make a 'tumbling block' quilt. I saw one years ago and fell in love with the pattern.

Superchemicalgirl, you always make it look so easy.

Baby update. Still no pip in the remaining egg. I did pull it this afternoon and momma Sparkle immediately perked up. They are still in our shop in a wire cage and will go to our portable chicken tractor whick is now also in the shop late tomorrow to give them more room. Baby Lucky is doing well. I got her drinking this afternoon and I pulled her out from under momma and the two of us taught her how to eat. It was so cute. I put feed in my hand and tapped it with my finger and clucking like a hen and then Sparkle would do the same thing, only she would peck at the food and call to the baby. She ate, stayed out from under momma for a minute or two and I rushed in to grab a camera. By the time I got back naturally she was back under momma.

One egg was always a little behind he others so I haven't completely gie up hope yet. Still given that I saw only half of an aircell today when I candled it doesn't bode well.

Good thing I believe in miracles.
