Cute chicks Micro!

Wicked I sure hope your ducklings all hatch.
Thank you for the well wishes. I hope they hatch too. :ya

I'm feeling better about thing now that they've pipped. My last guinea eggs have been dropping off...I thought maybe the duck eggs might be affected...but maybe bringing in duck eggs didn't help...even though I've kept them separated. I don't know...lol. The bator's going to be disinfected after the ducks are finished.

Yay!!! :wee
What type of chicks are those again? Those are lovely markings.:clap
The first chick is a good size compared to the wee guys[/.QUOTE]

Big Burd is a Buff Orpington. I was hoping for a cross bred chick from the egg as I didn't really want to breed any more standard birds due to the fact that I've observed the Buff O's to be more susceptible to Mareks than the other breeds I have. I hated making that decision because I love the BO's. The roosters (I'm down to one) are friendly and good flock masters and the hens are excellent layers and brooders.

Evidently somebody thought that I needed just one more.

The other two are OEGB/bantam mixes. I got the first two batches of eggs from our Amish neighbor down the road who has these delightful little birds roaming around his farm. I'm seeing some that have Cochin bantam in their background as they have feather stubble on their legs and I have two that I think have Sumatra in them due to their size, coloring, tail carriage and their black and red mottled combs and wattles. They are just a little larger than standard OEGB bantams so they may have some standard OEG in them but their personalities are more like bantam OEGBs.

I love the colors that they are producing. I have some boys that are mostly black with some orange brown feathers in their hackles and saddle feathers, some that are Red breasted blacks and one that looks Crele who is the largest of the bunch.

My two OEGB pullets that I got last month to keep a lone surviving chick company are about half the size of my OEGB hens. I'm kind of concerned about eventually running with my cockerels as they are so small compared to them. Folks on the OEGB thread thought that they were BBRs. But I'm starting to wonder if there isn't a bit of Jap crossing in them as they just are not gaining size.

A duck! Wowsers, that was quick. I was shocked to see a duckling when I checked. That was under an hour and a half from when I poster earlier. It had a hole started for the zipping process and it was pushing the attached piece of egg shell out when I looked at it last...lol. He's back in the incubator drying off.:woot
