The Old Folks Home

Its not always hot in the desert... mornings and evenings.... October through February.

The blowsand in the morning is like cool talc... it builds up on the lee side of the rocks and bushes... in the morning the jack rabbits lay like sphinx in the shade and talc.

I understand it can get quite cold at night in the desert. I like the look and biodiversity in the desert but i would not want to live there. I like to be surrounded with green leaves.

Despite the fact that I wanted to spend my evening planning the winning vehicle in the Outhouse Derby, a friends kid came over and I taught her to drive a stick.
Turns out last weekend her husband bought a new car that he selfishly wanted all to himself, figuring she'd never touch it if it was a manual transmission.

I love to burst bubbles.

We spent about 90 minutes doing the loop to the end of my dead end road, reverse, back out the road and then down the "main drag" to the school parking lot turn around, and back. I then told her to stop at my mailbox and then get up my driveway. My driveway is like a double black diamond course and she made it up the first time!!!!

She'll be back tomorrow and maybe Wednesday if she needs it and then off to burst her husbands bubble.

I learned to drive stick in two lessons in a used car parking lot. Wanted to buy a Toyota station wagon, and it was a stick shift. Loved that car!

Whoa! Really? He actually did that? Ya, if that was me...there'd be an imminent divorce. That kinda crap don't fly with me. I couldn't be with anyone who could even could even think of doing such a thing.

That's great that you're showing her to drive stick! :thumbsup

I learned when I was very young. My godmother left me at the end of her long, uphill driveway with a wave and "see you at the top, when you get up there you'll know how to drive stick"

That was truth.

My teaching method is slightly less barbaric but she was hooting at the end and seemed to really enjoy it. I can't wait to hear the story when she shows off her new skill with hubby.

In role reversal, bf here refuses to learn to drive my car, which is fine with me. I will drive a manual transmission until they don't make them anymore or I lose a lower limb, whichever comes first.

I love a stick shift in snow, much better than automatic. Got my first 4x4 vehicle and i like it already.
Super, no limb shedding or loss of other body parts allowed! Gets too messy in the Old Folks Home. Don't want people falling over that stuff laying around!

I don't remember when I learned to drive a stick. Sometime as a kid...maybe hauling grain? Many decades ago ...lol.

It's one thing not wanting to drive a stick. But to try to keep someone from driving on purpose?

Hopefully it's just when there are no more sticks.:lau

Kids these days don't want to expend effort to learn something they don't have to. Many have no access to a vehicle with a manual transmission. I think numbers are way down on production of said vehicles. They may quit making them except in sports cars.

poetic, that's all I can say

Teaching her how to drive that stick-shift will give both of you a memory that will never be forgotten....the outhouse plan can be done anytime.
