The Old Folks Home

I woke up thinking how very commendable it is that your kids are so involved. That's refreshing!

A lot of the time...what's in my head doesn't always manage to make it to the screen...lol.
Its a very good think that not all the things in my head make it to the screen.....

X2! To all of you who have taken care of someone in this respect. :bow
It is harder than some folks can imagine. I cared for my Aunt with Alzheimer's for 6 months. With all the farm chores it was hard to keep up with her. Then she started babbling non stop. Night and day unless she was asleep. It was more than i could endure. Called my parents, said you have to come get her. They kept her one week and found a long term care facility. I broke my heart because she was one of my favorite relatives. I kept Mom for a year, living in her house. Again, dementia. Couldn't remember what she did 3 minutes ago. After that year i needed to get back to the country and my own life. She is happy in a posh lock down facility where she can't wander off. Dieseases of the brain are horrible.

Hello! :frow

I bet you all thought I had fallen and been eaten by my chickens. :lau Well, no such luck, I'm alive and well and enjoying my retirement to the fullest. :celebrateI have a part time job and I have been to the beach for a total of four weeks this summer. :yesss:

School starts tomorrow and my last baby boy will be in the 11th grade. His two older brothers will both be in college. :th

We closed on a house last week and I have been working on getting it in shape to live in (for my oldest son.) He will be working full time soon and needs something to spend his money on besides his girl, his truck, and his friends.

I am not going to try to catch up. Let me know if there is anything I NEED to know. To all the new old folks - Welcome!! To all those who have been ill or injured - I'm sorry you feel bad and hope you feel better soon. To any who may have lost loved ones - You have my condolences and my empathy. I'm still grieving over my Dad.

:loveI love you all, and wish (there I go again) you all well.:hugs
Wisher!! :frow:wee

We were taking turns staying with Gran until the doctor deemed she was unfit to stay by herself. She requires a walker and a wheel chair, all of us have split and multi level homes where it isn't safe for her. If I had to do it over again...I'd build a one level house. :th

I should add that this is not anywhere close to what most of you do.

I learned to drive stick in two lessons in a used car parking lot. Wanted to buy a Toyota station wagon, and it was a stick shift. Loved that car!

I bought my first stick, my dad drove it home for me and backed it into the driveway so that when I took off the first time I would be going forwards uphill not backwards... I got it out, drove it a few laps around the neighborhood, took it out to the parkway for a bit, then drove it to dinner...

I don't know if it's just kids now...I don't think there were that many from my class that could or wanted to drive a stick. Mostly females but there'd be some males in there too.

It is going that way; the newer semis and most of the school buses are automatic. Not that I'm complaining, I rather like the automatics. My car is both an automatic and a stick...lol.

Actually, your transmission is likely a CVT which is neither a traditional automatic or a stick. CVT's would be awesome if they didn't try to make them act like a normal automatic and give them shift jerk. A CVT without the computer enforced shift jerks is perfectly smooth from 0-100 mph with no shifting due to not having gears to shift. So, technically when you are driving it like a stick, you are driving a fake automatic pretending to be a clutchless stick.... Not really sure why people thought that was a good idea...

I must get the house cleaned up before husband arrives tomorrow. I managed to clean out his shower. The silly cat likes to pee in there for some odd reason.

We had one that did that... A few weeks of keeping 2 inches of water in the tub at all times broke her of that... She would jump in and instantly jump back out!

You were up late last night!
Ahhhh, you caught that. :lau Apparently I only have "one" finger. :th
I saw that this morning and laughed. Then I immediately corrected it.

Maybe I'm not getting enough sleep all around. It's been happening in the day as well. I put nail polish on for the wedding we went to on July 30. I can finally see where the nail has grown now. Usually it's grown out by the 4th or 5th day. I start getting caught up on sleep...and then I stay up like last night. :barnie
But I was enjoying the chat with all of you.:weeSo it was worth it.:D

Ah, if only we had a bath tub! I try to keep the bathroom door shut to prevent it.

That sounds like the worm gear on our first swisher mower and the shifting in the newer tractors which doesn't require clutching...it's just shifting on the fly. I love that with the tractors. Only good when it works though.

I had to look up my own transmission last night...lol. It's been so long since I first read about it. Hear's a link that explains it better than I can today...lol. My car's a 2010 Dodge Charger RT.

Chatting is life's blood for me. I didn't realize how much i missed it until i started back on byc. I used to chat with my artist buddies at the art center three days a week. Loved making ceramics! I sure miss that
