The Old Folks Home

Now you see it, now you don't - they named that storm well, didn't they?:he

But do not mock, JD; it ain't over yet. The big story with Dennis/Floyd was the water, and most of that was only apparent days later. A few years ago, the remnants of a storm that had gone in through a Gulf state passed through here, and spawned a weak, short-lived tornado that killed two people. When your house is the one hit by a falling tree, even what is barely a ripple of energy can be a disaster to you.

e.t.a. Stay safe!

I'm in the NE corner of TX and no effects have reached here and doubt we'll get anything but maybe some rain depending on where it eventually decides to go. Lots of folks and their animals are hurtin' for certin' where Harvey has been and is right now. The furthest identifiable band is right over I-20, moving west, running from Shreveport, LA over to SW of D/FW (Dallas Ft. Worth). Hope all the southeast TX folks are doing OK and continue to do so.

Lots of pics of destruction on the news/weather channel, but of course the stations always look for the worst stuff to go public with... sells better. May only be a couple bldgs down and they show them for hours talking about "all" the devastation. Not belittling the damage shown, just saying...
They want the ratings, and people like to see destruction for whatever reason. Normal is boring.

Went canoeing today with husband and Mini. It was pleasant out there! We saw quite a bit of a kingfisher. 20170826_120603.jpg

Went into town this morning. On the way I could see the late season wildflowers on display along the roadside and up the hill. The purples of the wild bergamot (beebalm) and asters, the rich colors of the Black Eyed Susans and the bright Goldenrod. I could also see the deep fire red of the changing Sumac, the beginnings of the dark green draining from the leaves and the first yellows showing on the Popple trees. We had our first real frost two nights ago. I guess Mother Nature was letting me know it's time for me to pick up the pace a bit if we are going to be ready for winter.
