The Old Folks Home

No plans here. Just basic farm stuff.

We are still batting things down for Winter before it gets too cold out side. We woke up to rain this morning so whatever we get done will be inside.

I love it that chickens are one of the few animals that can regrow brain cells. Puts a whole new spin on the name Bird Brain, doesn't it!

Hate to say this, but I'm still out my ears in cukes. And I did get a bunch of pumpkins, although the chickens already ate one.

Picked up my CSA this morning. I was a bit dismayed to see it had beets in it. I have never eaten a beet. It also contained "sunchokes" which I had never heard of. My GI tract does not really appreciate new things, so this should be interesting. It won't be tonight, because tomorrow is the day I'm stuck in a car with at least 3 other women, possibly 4, for an 8 hour road trip. Tonight's not the night to be adventurous. However, I figure @ronott1 has to have a recipe out there...

Got only one pumpkin and it came up from a volunteer plant that came up in the yard near the house. Still cannot figure out how the seed got there unless 1) varmint carried it from the pumpkin display near the front door. 2) dog ate the pumpkin and the seed moved through it's digestive track to be deposited where it took root.3) Ditto on the same theory only done by a wild bird.

DH asked me if I was going to carve it and I said no, it looked to be a sugar pumpkin so it will be turned into pie probably.

Penny I like your ghost. I hope you don't get sprayed!

Scg I have never heard of sunchokes either. Congrats on your cucs still producing.

My eggplant is still producing. The weather is going to cool off this week so I will harvest all that are ready.

Micro no telling how your pumpkin popped up. lol

How exciting Scg! Can't wait to see the pics.

Ron and Micro I did not know that chickens could re-grow brain cells! That is so awesome!
We are finally going to get some cooler weather! I'm so excited!
Temps in the 70's! Yahoo! :wee
