Is there a strong family resemblence too?
Maybe you Mom has a special mirror or something....
LOL. And too true! I am a shorter chunkier version right down to the grey streak in otherwise dishwater blonde hair.
I am looking at New Mexico too. One of our Grad Students is from there and said it would be a good place to retire. Being a 5th generation Californian that would be a big move for me!
I'm 5th generation Californian, too. I LOVE New Mexico. The people are so friendly. If you relocate to near ABQ you have the airport that flies Southwest out of it, which is convenient to go visit or have visitors. Compared to Woodland, you'll love the scenery. (I lived in Davis for 6 years, so understand flat and dry.) Most of NM is rural, but the cities have good chicken ordinances. (Well, maybe not Rio Rancho.) The summers are temperate and there's four seasons, but nothing too severe. They don't call it "The Land of Enchantment" for nothing. Take a visit and a gander.

Welcome, Parront!
I lived in Northern CA for 45 years and Las Vegas, NV, for 10. I now have retired and call New Mexico my home. Wasn't too fond of LV after about 3 years. Behind all the glitz and glam, it was a little too cutthroat for me business-wise. And it was very hot, dry desert with a summer season affectionately called Hell that lasted for half a year+. But, hey, the joints loved the warmth and low humidity. And I hear you on the HOA's and the ARC restrictions....never again! We had one repressed hall monitor-type that would ride his medi-scooter around the neighborhood and report you if you had 1/4" of tubing showing on your irrigation system. Where I am now had to submit CC&R's to the P&Z Department to develop the area, but there's no Board nor enforcement and nobody cares who has what livestock. Most of my neighbors are not in compliance with the allotted number of dogs and horses allowed. Being as how my coop is closer to my neighbor's bedroom window than my house, a tad of consideration went into not installing a rooster. Besides, there's plenty of them in the neighborhood if you want morning revelry ambiance. Nice to hear them, drink coffee on the porch and watch the morning balloons go by.
(Today was the last day of our yearly International Balloon Fiesta.)
