I think that might backfire on me. Pun intended. I need to be able to avoid them

Take a couple of little bites and say you are are feeling a bit off. That would cover the effects of the sun chokes that happen later!

It would be nice if you could get them to stop adding sun chokes to the box

Congratulations on the new chick @Wickedchicken6.

I had a partridge bantam OEGB hen go broody last year and when her eggs hatched, Her sister broke into the broody pen I'd set up (still don't know how she managed it) attacked mom and babies and when the melee was over all the chicks were dead. 3 immediately 1 I had to put down due to a compound fractured leg. The attacker hen will never be allowed to brood eggs or be around chicks. The broody hen developed issues herself, tossing around the injured chick. Whether or not it was from stress or whatever,now I have to keep an eye on her also.

They have a way of reminding a person that just when you think you have them figured out, they show you who really is in charge.

I know. You hear so much about OEGBs being such good mothers/broodies. I'm willing to give the broody a second chance but her sister is on a watch list. I've seen her peck my smaller BBR bantam pullets that are pure bred and I don't trust her very far at all. I told DH that with her aggression towards smaller birds that if she kept it up, I'd cull her. I have a couple of her daughters from other broody's hatchings that I'm holding my breath with and hoping that it isn't something genetic. Their redeeming quality is that they are excellent layers.

The incident was enough for me to come to the decision that I needed a separate structure for my broodies and hatchlings that was away from the main flock. I put in a request to Santa Baby for a cedar coop kit that I could set up next to the main coop for my broodies and babies. Since it would only be used during breeding season it didn't have to be insulated and since it wasn't going to be a 'main' coop a kit should work for the project.....I hope.

Well SCG, I'm happy that the spigot is fixed and no longer an issue for you. I'm sure in retrospect it was probably well worth the $90 "investment". Just the fact that he did show up as scheduled, and got the job done in minimal time, are some things to cheer about. I'm sure you won't even give a second thought over the course of the winter while hauling those buckets of water filled from that spigot

Any day fishing is better than a day doing something else (like work)... Go get 'em Chicka! and enjoy the time by the water.
