The Old Folks Home

@penny1960, I need to get back on D. I have to put an order in at Vitacost next week and plan to order some. I'm so tired this morning I can hardly drag one foot behind the other in spite of sleeping 8 hours last night. I also made the mistake of eating a few cookies last night that have coconut in them and since I'm allergic to tree nuts (yeah, coconut is a tree nut believe it or not) that may be causing it and the upset stomach also. I took a Benedryl and feel a little better so no more cookies.

Since I've had Lyme disease I've developed a lot of weird food allergies. Not unusual at all.[/QUOTE]

X2 to Ron about on the DW. Great to hear she is progressing.

I am fortunate not have gotten Lyme or cat scratch in my career... plane old arthritis gets to kick my fanny

When we were building the front porch and back deck/porch I made DH ditch the prefab stringers for the steps and stretch out the rise and run. I got the "eye roll" at the time but now he admits to being grateful for my foresight since his knees gave out. He also reworked the two steps up into the coop while I was healing from my broken leg/ankle and turned them into more like staggered platforms. Good DH :love

when BF had to stairs for me he did the 6 inch rise on them yes always sideways on stairs doesn't matter how many

Aren't those fantastic pails!!:clap DH was using them to water the calf and we use them to store stuff. I love the price!! The co op food store in the city had some.

I worked with a younger fellow who used to carry TWO bags of softener salt in each hand when he carried groceries. I often wonder how his back is now. I haven't seen him going on 30 years. Ah, to be young and KNOW better now...lol. :wee

I was going to say that we got a wheeled cart. But they have to lift the stuff in it for me. But right now I'm using it for washing stuff outside, keeps me from having to bend as much. :p

always trying to save my butt from lifting anything

I worked in the chicken coop this morning. Rat tunnels all destroyed, and plenty of baits placed safely away from the chickens. Darned rats!

This is what I did yesterday:

Yes, I put the table, and toy organizer together for the grandkids.

That figures. Too expensive then. :rant

 I don't even think about moving my garbage cans. That's off limits. They stay stationary unless the guys use them to get grain. And I need to get them back on a pallet so I don't have to bend as far. I use a sad little 8 liter pail for water and feed.

We got the call that my feed is in. We asked them to leave it on the pallet and we won't even handle the bags now. We'll set the pallet of bags right at the coop for winter, probably put the pallet inside the barn for the summer. Save the 'ol man as well. :gig
For my birthday this year DH bought me one of those "sheds in a box" for my feed shed and we put it up together right behind the coop/greenhouse complex. Took up a bit of the second run but I love it!totally rodent proof.

Have that problem here with Wavy Lays. DW can control herself with the BBQ ones but regular? She'd eat the entire "Family size" bag in one go. So we don't have those in the house (as far as she knows).

Our cats are not at all helpful in that respect. Two of them spend most of their time sleeping on the bed. Gotta get the cats off the bed to strip it, gotta get them off to make it. Actually down to one now, the 15-16 Y/O cat has moved to the living room for the winter now that the wood stove is running 24x7.

Is she going up "straight" or sideways? My knees were really bad pushing 30 years ago, no idea why. But I couldn't go straight up stairs, I had to step up them sideways, less pressure on the knees. Have the "good leg" on the uphill side. DW and I went to Tulum in Mexico for our honeymoon 27 years ago. Took a tour of the Mayan ruins. The guide showed us how to climb the pyramid steps, yep sideways like a switchback rather than straight up. You may travel farther but you aren't winded at the top. Proved really useful when we later went to Chichen Itza with its bigger pyramids.
Thanks for the tip! She has been to some of those ruins. Likely does not remember to go up sideways. I will remind her.

Did you get a knee replacement?

Good job on the rats! I am watching for them here but so far no signs of rats...Thank goodness! Two years ago we were infested with them

When do the grand kids get there?

One will see it in the morning, when I babysit, and the second will see it tomorrow afternoon. The third will probably see it next weekend. I want to take the doors off of one side of the china cabinet, and put a 32" tv in it for them. It will hold their video game stuff, and dvd's, etc. too.

The lady that is at the local MFA is about my height and weight, meaning she's about 5-2 and 125-135 pounds. She taught me how to carry 50 pound bags of feed. She stands them up on end and bear hugs them, then straightens her knees. I tried it that way (not supposed to be lifting that much but hey, ya do what you have to do sometimes) and sure nuff, no or very little pain. If I try to drag them or lift them by the tops, I can just count on hurting.

Our current house is mainly one floor. One door is on ground level, two have steps accessing them. Our attic has a long flight of stairs and they kick my knees. I take one step at a time but I'm going to try the sideways step to see if that works.

@ronott1, glad to hear that DW is feeling better. Give her our best wishes!

Ooooh...nice set up! They'll like that! :clap
