The Old Folks Home

My brother took a partial poison bite from a brown recluse on his ankle and almost lost his foot. He lives in central IL and thinks he came in contact with the spider while getting his lawn mower out of his garden shed. He actually wound up in the hospital with it. Nasty things need to die along with ticks. Just wipe em off the face of the earth. Won't miss them at all.

We had thunder storms rumble through tonight. December 4th for goodness sake. Don't get me wrong, I'd much rather have thunder bumpers than blizzards but this weather is just plain weird.

Plague still pops up in Colorado from time to time if memory serves me right. I think it shows up in squirrels out there.

True that about Leprosy. I can still remember my childhood friend having an armadillo purse that her mom gave her that we played with regularly. Granted, tanning probably killed off any creepy crawlies but the mere knowledge still gives me the shudders to this day.

Ron I think the plague is still out west. It has not made it here yet.
I have told people about it and they did not believe me. lol
My sister told me about it years ago when she would go on geological field trips she told her Professor and he did not believe her! Til they got back and he looked it up! haaaa
The Sierra Nevada mt.s(a couple hours from here) is a plague zone on the maps. There were a couple of cased in Colorado too.

Was it Bali that had a big out break this year? No, it was madagascar. It is very curable now but you have to know what it is to cure it.

My youngest DDs BF was bitten by a brown recluse when he was little. He has a big scar on his calf from it. He had to be hospitalized.

I surely don't mean to alarm anybody, but all spiders are venomous....it is the black widow and brown recluse that are the ones to watch out for here in the US....the others aren't inclined to bite humans and their fangs are too short to penetrate skin. Between the widow and recluse it is much better to be bitten by a widow over a recluse.....why?....because, with a widow bite there is pain shortly after the bite....not so with the recluse and the bite usually isn't noticed until damage has already taken place and there is always more damage done to tissue than just the immediate bite area requiring major tissue loss, because they have to cut back to healthy tissue. Also, armadillos are subject to be carriers of leprosy....it is about 1 out of every 4 that are and they are the only animal in the US that does. However, unless ya are prone to chasing them down and touching them with your bare hands and not properly washing them, then don't get cut by their shell or claws.....:)
