The Old Folks Home

Yesterday not such a good day. My back was bothering me. Our ACD with DM was having a bad day. He weighs about 65 pounds now due to the high dose pred he is on and didn't want to 'help' us when we were helping him outside. We are using a back end sling on him and usually he tries to help but lately isn't even trying to use his stronger right hind leg.

I managed to get my feet tangled up in his, stumbled and tweeked my back. Woke up yesterday and everything was spasming from the waist down muscle wise. Sciatica was bad, back was bad but I had things to get done and was on my feet most of the day.

Woke up this morning and the moment I stood up I regretted it. Hobbled out to the kitchen, got as the song says 'a cup of ambition' then another. still didn't help the spasms and sciatica one bit so I broke down and took a muscle relaxer. God bless Zanaflex is all I can say. I had a few things to get done around the house, not much. After lunch, I knew what was going to happen so I set down on the sofa and waited for it. Sure enough, woke up about 2:30 and the spasms were minimal as was the sciatica. I felt good enough to go out and fill up the wood wagon for DH who had been picking up my slack for two days.

As much as I hate using the muscle relaxers they really do the job when I need them.

Talking about peeling eggs. I read somewhere that store eggs can be around as long as 90 days until they hit the coolers. Every time I complain about not being able to peel my hard boiled eggs, DH reminds me that at least I know they are less than 90 days old.

I am definitely going to try a bit of lemon juice in the water the next time I boil eggs though.

My mother hot packed most of her fruits and tomatoes that she canned. They all kept with the exception of an odd jar that upon closer inspection had a small chip in the rim. She never water bathed. We never were sick but then we used common sense with canned goods. We made sure the seal was sound and that there was no funky smells when we opened them. Even with veggies that she pressure canned.

Now I do water bath my tomatoes and fruits like peaches and pears. I have a pressure canner that I have yet to use mainly because we have a cook top electric range. A turkey fryer is definitely on my get list so I can fire the thing up at some point in time.

Penny, batten down the hatches and hang on for dear life. We have been having a lot of wind here up till today. Mild temps but no sun. I feel like we have a new season Fanter. Not fall and not winter, just like we have Wing. Not quite winter but not spring either.

Still when it's windy, it sorta kinda funny to see the roosters standing with their tails to the wind and their tails going all inside out.:gig
grouphugg.gif feel better!

Thanks Ron. Feeling much better tonight. Just massaged my feet and DH's sore shoulder with Aspercream with Lidocaine. May have to buy stock in the company......or an industrial sized drum of the stuff.

we both need to be rich such paying for our use

Maybe a tub of the stuff, and just take a dip when needed?:th

Yes, thank you. I took several others to the feed store to see if they can sell them. The idea was of Christmas ornaments (they are made around a plastic 2" ball, and have a ribbon for hanging), but they make kind of cute stand-alone knickknacks, too.

Tudy (the mascot) was just to see if it would work.

Dh saw an ad that Sears had a good sale on a lot of their Craftsman tools. He pointed out several sets that would make good Christmas presents for him. Today, while he slept, I went and pulled some cash from the ATM, and headed to Sears. I have never seen their tool dept. so empty.

Needless to say, they didn't have the advertised screwdriver set. I asked the store clerk for a rain check. Nope, they don't do rain checks. I offered to pre-pay, and have them call when they came in. Nope, they couldn't reserve any. He really tried. He then tried checking with other stores, to get any of their extras sent to this store. Nope, no one had any. He then contacted someone higher up the food chain, in purchasing/distribution. It seems that none of the stores had any, and they were all on back order. Craftsman was not expecting such a demand, and manufacturing was having a hard time supplying the demand. They would continue to manufacture, and distribute as quickly as they could, but it would be awhile before they got the stores restocked. Instead, I was offered a smaller, but much better set, at a greatly reduced price. I got 2 sets, and the matching pliers set to go with it.

Afterwards, I met DD #2 for a late lunch. While we were eating, Dh called, and asked if he could use my truck. Darn, no time to hide his tools, so I gave them to DD #2, and told her to give them to DD #1 so the grandkids could give them to grandpa as their Christmas presents for him. Once again, husband looking all over for his Christmas presents, can't find them. Hahaha.
