The Old Folks Home

oh all of you frozen peeps....

All yesterday and all night long it has been blowing like a beast and raining all over my nice white snow.

Still raining this morning... and still blowing hard. Sounds a bit more like sleet though.

How is it warmer in Alaska than Florida? That's going to be some nasty ice, soon.

And I have to work this week regardless of the weather.

Yep... baaaaaaaaad ice. Not warm enough to melt the roads clear... so one super thick ice slick. I dislike that. Especially since we STILL have close to zero berms!!!! An icy road is fun when I just bump back and forth from one berm to the other as I slide down the hill....

But rolling down the SIDE of the hill...nope, not fun.

At some point I'm going to have to play catch up.

I spent the day power cleaning the house. DH says it's the only good thing that is coming out of this horrid cold weather.

I have one rooster with frozen wattles. Stupid bird I have no idea how he managed that as he is the only bird with his wattles frozen solid.

Talk about freezing your dangly bits off. My rooster with the tips of his combs frost bit doesn't look too bad today and all the bantams, some of them with ginormous combs are unscathed.

Today it got up to 16 degrees here. You would think it was a heat wave.

I used to get more frozen wattles when I used metal feeders. I think the metal edges just get too cold.

I now use only plastic feeders... I think it helps a bit, but not always.

I think sometimes when the rooster comb is super big and very cold, it bumps on the top of the plastic pipe and gets damaged that way.

That is very helpful!
