The Old Folks Home

Heck..I'd take Guam too!! It's a little bit closer to the USA.

Its closer but there is not much difference between 11 and 13 hours and Guam would give me rock fever. Its too small.

For the quarantine - I've learned the hard way to do it (and now I actually no longer risk buying live birds, I do all eggs). JUST DO IT. Find a way to do it. Ones I got had both worms and mites.

And when I say mites, I mean... I quarantined my cute little chickies in the basement, left for the weekend to go home, came back to a mite infestation all Biblical-like. I could scoop the mites into a mite hill.

And because I never overreact...

Now... at some point after this mite (oh and did I mention they had worms, too?) infestation was over, I got some more live birds. I treated them in quarantine on the first and the 14th day for both lice/mites and worms. If I ever have to get live birds again I will a) look more carefully at what I was getting and b) treat again just like this.

That being said, I got some wonderful birds out of it and I'm glad I did it. But quarantine. Learn from my mistakes.

And I wanted to also add that I'm pretty surprised that people who know me still joke around about costumes with me.

You've seen what I did to DiDi when she wanted "Rainbows, puppydogs, butterflies and unicorns" on a straitjacket.

For those who missed it:

I've also made (more serious) some capes and masks for BF's niece and nephew who like superheros.

Today I was in a Flu Committee meeting. The RN in Occupational Health said she wanted a flu costume.

I immediately started daydreaming up Flu Girl.

This:

Turned into this:

The mask is a bit disproportionate but it was the best I could do in 2.5 hours.

I'm almost disappointed Flu Girl doesn't have a cape to go with it. I do realize she'll never wear this outside of the confines of her office (hopefully) and that's all that's stopping me from making a cape, too... with a giant syringe on the back of it.
