The Old Folks Home

Just got the news this afternoon that the dr. did not get all of my dad's skin cancer. It has spread further than they originally thought and now he has to have the procedure done again in a few weeks! I am feeling down. There was barely enough skin left to sew it up this time, so now they are talking about skin grafting. It is basically his entire right side of his neck. Prayers are appreciated if you are a praying man/ woman....

Prayers for your dad, you, and for the surgeons doing this work on him. Stay strong!

Quote: My boys are not much taller than the posthole digger-- I think one is still shorter-- so they work the thing together to dig post holes!! It'a a bit comical to hear them argue, discuss and order each other around until they work out a co-ordinated method!! A lifetime of hole ahead of them . . .lol

Wisher, look at this pretty little thang:
She is a beauty! What do you call her? Do you have pics of any of the others? I would love to see a pic of her egg, too!

In August, I lost my favorite from that group, a big, beautiful, raven black, EE hen with a muff and beard like that hen of yours. She died (along with nearly 20 others) during my mystery plague. The odd thing is , she was one of only three pullets that died, the rest were cocks or cockerals.

I could look at your place all day, Linda, but using a post hole digger while wearing flip flops?
Oh, that was the other day. Yesterday, he pulled the fence in his bare feet. One of the flip-flops broke, so he stepped out of them and continued to work. We call him "Barefoot Jeremy." In the two years I've known him, he has always worn shorts; I have never seen him in long pants. Last Winter, he walked up my snow-covered driveway in his bare feet. He said he runs his chainsaw in flip-flops "all the time." He clears land with his own Case whatchamacallit, also owns a Kabota, cuts wood, puts up vineyard fencing, all kinds of stuff. As to security against predators, there is heavy-duty "stucco-type" chicken wire buried as an apron completely around the coop, I have ordered anti-bird netting (100 X 50 feet) which will either be suspended on a cable or across some more T-posts to cover the run. Haven't determined the method just yet. I've purchased 100-foot rolls of hardware cloth to create an apron around the run, too. There's also an electric fence system on order from FarmTek, to be used as an additional, movable (by people) barrier.

Here's a shot of me planting my claim the day escrow closed.

This is the driveway entrance with the chain I installed before escrow closed! but the same day the seller removed the 18 foot wrought iron gate. Pre-reflector, though. ;)

Redpullettmama: I am definitely praying for you. As a person that just went thru a family member with cancer I am always here to talk with if needed. This group is great at including you in their prayers/thoughts. Definitelly appreciative to all of them and I am sure they will do the same for you. My heart goes out to ya'll and you will be in my prayers. :hugs
