The Old Folks Home

gray, rainy day - maybe it is spring and I just didn't notice.
Pretty gray here today as well. But I saw robins on the lawn, 2 Canada Geese stopped in the pond behind the barn for a short time last evening and there are red-wing blackbirds. Must be spring is coming!!

I always grab up peeps after the Easter. Usually a lot of them to be had for 10 cents to 25 cents. I pop them into the back of the cupboard and leave them there to use as Raccoon bait in my live trap. 'Coons don't mind if they are stale and if they are stale they won't be tempting me to gobble them down. Either way they are cheep bait.

Well the snow is rapidly disappearing here. The rain is seeing to that. Geesh, when is this going ot stop and spring happen. Things are so far behind right now when it comes to budding and leafing out. The good news is that the peach trees are always trying to bud out too early and getting frost bit so maybe this year we will have a crop again.

Peeps should use that for advertising!

Raccoon Bait for traps!

Love it

Man I'm about ready to paint myself purple, stand on a hill and swing a dead chicken over my head if it would get rid of this grey nasty sloppy cold weather we are experiencing and get on with spring.

I told DH this is why I seldom complain other than saying 'Gee it's hot outside' when the temp goes to 90. Much preferable to what we are experincing here.

80% of the snow we had on Sunday is gone leaving behind muck with occasional mounds of snow. Just went out and gave the chickens fresh water and let them out. They ran to the snow instead and started eating it like snow cones....right next to the water bowl.

Sometimes I think Buff Orpingtons are just plain mentally ill.

On a bright note, one forecast for Sunday says rain changing to snow or snow changing to rain, can't remember which and the other says 2-6 inches of snow.

:he :duc

I hope the first one is correct. At least rain washes away the snow. But we are back to being grey skies with no sun here also.

It is Mud Season!

We had the midwest rendition of break up here one year. We had an early thaw, the rivers all flooded, then we had a sudden freeze that left 5-6 inches on ice on the flooded rivers which were over their banks in places. When the water level started to drop it left these piled slabs of thick ice everywhere. It was really pretty cool to see.

My chickens do that and they aren't BOs. I've also seen the alpacas eating snow when their water bucket is full. I guess some animals just like their's "natural".
