The Old Folks Home

Been a crazy day so far. Dog had diarrhea every hour on the hour through the night. Since I don't sleep well after the first few hours anyway, bf took the before midnight shift and i took the after.
I was getting out of the shower at 0515 and saw my phone going off. It was someone at work asking me where I was... was supposed to be at work at 5.
Apparently I can go from dripping wet to out the door in 3 minutes, flat. I should put that skill on my resume. I was even wearing all the required clothing for public ventures.
BF took the dog to the vet this morning and apparently she has c. difficile diarrhea, likely tracked home because both bf and myself work in a hospital. Lovely.
I am so sorry about your dog but glad you have a diagnosis.... and can plan your biosecurity now

Do I dare ask if you are "tracking" C diff home how it is that you and BF haven't gotten it??

Generally for c diff you need to be either immune compromised or on antibiotics enough to kill the normal gut flora you may have that keeps it in check. She just had a massive dose of wormer which likely caused some imbalance in her gut, which was followed by the spores activating.

c diff spores are really hard to kill - only bleach kills them. So we could track them home pretty easy on shoes or clothing.

Sooooo...can they give a dog Vancomycin? Or is there a different treatment for them? Does it colonize in canines the way it does in humans once it is knocked into remission or can you eradicate it in dogs?

It was common when I was working in rehab medicine to have people discharged to the center and bring a case of C Diff along with them. You could smell it and know what it was. It has the odor of rancid dog food, at least that is how we described it. The minute we smelled it we were on the phone for a culture.

Sorry to hear that Doggo has it. Poor baby. Hope she gets to feeling better and you can get some sleep, SGC.

Chicka, I feel for your husband. It's horrible that anyone has to jump through so many hoops to prove that they need a test. Doctors order tests to help their patients and because if they don't order them it leaves them open to either grief from the insurance companies for not providing a tier 1 degree of care and if they don't do the tests and something happens to the patient it leaves them open to legal repercussions. Talk about a snake eating it's own tail.

I try laying down and using a heating pad along with my muscle relaxers and pain meds for my back. The heat really helps a lot. I've got an appointment finally with a rheumatologist the middle of August so I know how to hurry up and wait also.

Today I removed the divider and merged the two groups of chicks. So far there has been a lot of chasing, pecking, feather pulling and general mayhem. The hobby room where the grow out pen is thanks to the weather shares a vent with the kitchen so I can hear what's going on. I'll hear one of them screaming like it's being murdered, rush out there to find them all sitting on their roost bar with one of the older cockerels sitting with them looking deceptively innocent. The three SDW males are named Diesel, Turbo and Vee Dub (short for VW=Volkswagen) The girls are Foxy and Echo. The four chicks I hatched in the 'bator are Bravo, Charlie, Sierra and Delta. Lots of good names to be had in the Alpha Numeric alphabet, LOL!

Snow is melting. From the way the forecast looks, this is the last of it. Temps up to 70 by the middle of the week.

It's about time is all can say.

They gave her metronidazole, which is no longer recommended for human cases due to resistance. BF went to the vet, though, not me. So we'll try the med and then if/when it doesn't work I'll call and ask for the vanco. I'll also ask that they write a script for the injectable so we can compound it ourselves and save $1000 off the list price of vanco capsules.

Scg sorry your pro is sick.
I hope the meds work.

Thanks Y'all.
I hope everyone feels better soon.

I called BCBS they said the dr office did not send the Dr notes with the request so they had to deny it.

I called the Nero Dr that did his first disk. The said if I bring the x-rays they will see him. And will request the MRI.
They gave me an appointment for Wednesday. Yea
