It is colder here today with wind, rain and snow in the SierrasSame here, all those suffering from pain, cancer, illness, back problems and the general aches and pains of growing older, hang in there. I'm lifting you all up in prayer.
It actually made it to 71 here today. Couldn't believe it. Got the taxes done, came home, grabbed lunch and headed outside to knock down a few trees, one of which was blocking DH's HAM antenna that he was putting up for us.. We must have walked around that tree a dozen times trying to figure out what to do with it. The limb in our way was too high for us to even consider using a ladder and a heavy chain saw. DH asked me if I had any suggestions when I told him if he even tried to climb the ladder with a chain saw I was going to hold my breath till I passed out and I simply drew my finger across my throat and said make tree go away and keep us warm this next winter. It was a pretty good sized tree with a 24 inch girth and we thought we had a good path to drop it between two smaller hickories deeper in the timber. The tree in question is at the edge of our yard so DH fired up the chain saw and started carving on it. When it started to go, the wind kicked up and you would think that a 50 +foot tall Oak tree wouldn't be affected by the wind when gravity kicks in but lemme tell ya, it was. Stupid tree missed the corridor we were aiming for, twisted slightly and managed to hit one of the trees we were trying to miss.
DH and I just looked at one another and muttered the same curse at the same time. Our simple drop had turned into a widow maker. We spent the next 30 minutes trying to figure out how to get it closer to the ground. Too big and heavy for the tractor to pull. Too dangerous to leave it. He managed to cut through the strap and drop the cut end to the ground. At that point we walked away needing a break and worked on the antenna. While we were working we heard this sharp crack and the tree slides down the smaller tree that it is leaning against and stopped, securely wedged against it's trunk. Oh well, at least it's closer to the ground and in no danger of dropping on top of some unsuspecting victim. We will go back to work on it tomorrow.
May have to see if any of our friends have a RPG we can borrow to shoot down the smaller tree....maybe a tank with a really big gun on it...make small tree go BOOM!
I'll get a picture of it tomorrow.
