The Old Folks Home

That kind of thing happens in fields! I hatched duck eggs where the mom was killed like that.
Yeah, I know. Weird thing here is that this doe built her nest about 12 inches from the hot wire around my run. The grass had really gotten tall there and I had never seen a rabbit hanging around the area so it took me completely by surprise, needless to say when I saw bunnies hopping in every direction and realized I had hit a nest.

It usually happens every spring here. Dogs found one earlier in the front yard and had a feast. I don't mind it so much when the dogs eliminate the rabbit population around here. Sort of glad when they do. It's a lot less gory when they do their job than when the lawn mower does.

We had a neighbor that hit a fawn with his tractor mower. He had moved it twice and it kept coming back to the area where he was mowing. Don't know how he managed to hit it the third time. I think the guy was a bit of dim bulb on a good day. Tried to convince us once that Missouri lead the country in corn production.....we told him we were sure the folks in Iowa and Illinois would be glad to hear that since they were #1 and #2:lau

This is a Mars it's self fertile.
When the blossoms open they pollinate as they bust open.
But I do have bees all over.
Nice!

self pollinating means that there are both male and female blossoms on the plant. They will pollinate with wind but having pollinators like bees helps

Do you have that shift once a month?
No, just covering vacations. Three shifts and if one is off we split the week. I did ten weeks last yr, all of July and almost all of deer season, sucked. Half of it was days 7:30-7:30pm.
Supposed to have two vacation relief people in our department but haven't in a few yrs since I bid off it (can't get anyone trained on the five jobs and stay). I'm not even supposed to be on this job anymore bid on to a day shift four tens three days off, five months ago now, but can't get anyone hired or trained. We trained two now and they both quit. Girl that bid on my job can't be moved so I can be moved either cause same thing, last person she trained just couldn't use their brain apparently. Her job is easy IMHO, hooking up lines and silos, tanks, for CIP (wash) push a button. Some people just can't perform simple tasks I guess...
My job is pretty technical, probably scary and intimidating to anyone who hasn't dealt with such, I know it was for me when I started here yrs ago, didn't think I could ever do it. But they give you 4-6 weeks training and sometimes more. Once it all 'clicks' and you understand what needs to be done and when, what to watch for and pay attention to, easiest job there is.
I spend 90% of most days just sitting at a desk and reading or playing on my phone.
I'm more and more thinking the days of people wanting to work is over. Can't get them to do manual labor, heck can't even get them to do easy labor.
They actually just recently hired back full time a old retiree to work in the vat room where they make the cheese. He was bored wanted to come back.
When I saw him I said, 'Yeah!! they finally decided to hire a REAL worker!
I've got the answer to our hiring problem, quit advertising for new blood and start calling up all you old'timers and beg them to come back!!':old

Yes, will pollinate themselves if no other is around.
Some self pollinating, wish I knew this earlier, pollinate themselves before the flowers open and do not cross pollinate unless occasionally a really hungry bee rips a flower open.
I've never saved tomato seeds cause I figured they were worthless to me beings I usually have a few varieties and at least one hybrid. Always figured they were cross pollinated. Nope, they breed true , self pollinate before the flowers open. Same with beans. I'll be saving seeds for now on and save $$ plus hopefully have them adapt better to our area. Plus save seeds from stuff that does cross pollinate by saving each one every other or third yr.
