The Old Folks Home

Day before yesterday, my 2001 Toyota RAV4's transmission crapped out as I was attempting to leave The Pub. No reverse. I was going to go just up the road for a weekly Scrabble game fest at the home of HHandbasket and Farmer_Lew. The Pub is in a cell phone "black hole" so I had to go back inside to call them. FL came to get me; then took me home later. Th next morning they came to get me, go back to my car, the push it back out of the parking spot so I could put it in drive and limp it home.

Today, John the Contractor picked me up early to take me in to Placerville to look for a suitable used car I could afford. Nothing. We ate breakfast at Mel's, looking through the Mountain Democrat and the Sacrmento Bee classified ads.

I am now driving a Quest, purchased in Sacramento.

It will be a while before I can afford to put anything other than a simple gate across the driveway at the new property. Heck, I may just continue to use to chain for a good long while....

We hung plastic streamers on ours.

I swallowed a stinkbug, once. They taste EXACTLY like they smell.

For us, it has been the year of the brown centipede. Millions of them!

OK, I need this story. Did you swallow the stinkbug to swallow the fly?

And if anyone has slugs, get ducks. No more slugs. We used to have slugs here the size of horses. The giant yellow kind. You could ride them. Three very happy free range ducks later and... I rarely see a slug.

ummm, I'm from the north-- only time I had grits was while at a friends house long ago as she was from the south. How to make grits??? As basic as boiling rice?? lol

I thought no self respectin' southerner uses instant grits?
