Good morning everyone hope y'all have a great day:frow

My hubby had his mitral valve repaired. He had enough skin there, that he didn't need a replacement. Man...they took his heart out, stopped it to work on it. I was scared to bits. I've heard they don't do it that way any more. I'm trying to remember how long ago. It's been a good 14 years if not longer. He's done excellant with it. He was only in for around 4 or 5 days. The nurses kept saying they couldn't believe how well he was doing. Well, he wanted to get out of there. Did everything they told him he needed to do to go home!
Prayers for you and your hubby:hugs

chicka, usually you can get a referral from your primary care physician. With the insurance I have, I don't need a referral, even for a second opinion. It depends on what coverage you have.
Perfect answer!

We have to get referrals

Wow Bc and Micro so sorry you having critter problems in your gardens. Dh has been taking down our critters pretty regularly. The few that are left take off running when they see us now.

Clue and Ron I did a search to see if we have any Dr.'s that do disk replacement here. And i found several that do.
One place is the sports medicine clinic. I found some info on John Hopkins hospital website and read some of it to dh. And told him to read it. I also told him he should go see one of the Dr's and get a second opinion.
I tried to stress the fact that he would not have the constant pain like in his neck if he had disk replacement and that he would recover faster.

How do we go about getting a referral for a second opinion?
Do we ask the nerusergon he already saw for one?
Just call the new docs office.....

Thanks Clue, Ron and Perchie.

Dh does not have a gp dr. I guess I will call bc/bs if al ti see if he needs a referral. But his neurologist will know because the new place will need to see his MRI to be able to discuss a treatment plan for a second opinion.
Second opinions is a standard. The Neurologists should not care.

Sports medicine Drs. are great! They want to get you out doing stuff again and seem very good at that.

Thanks Clue, Ron and Perchie.

So? When contemplating serious surgery, it's common to get a second opinion. Most doctors are not offended about a second opinion. When my mother was alive, there was a time she went to a doctor, then got a second opinion. The two were diametrically opposed. Her insurance company told her to pick another doctor, and they would bill it as another second opinion, so they could determine which way she should go with it.
