Last baby is out of the shell and the first ones to hatch this morning are out running around!
Betty Boop is a sweet little hen and is dedicated to her babies. She did let me pick one of them up with only minimal fussing.
These bantam crosses that I got from the Amish neighbor have been great chickens to have around. Big personalities in small birds. I just took out a pile of bones from a rabbit I'd had in the freezer since last year and cooked off for the dogs out to the chickens to finish off. Our Australian Cattle Dog with degenerative myelopathy continues to decline and isn't eating as he should which is hard to watch in a dog that has never met a meal he didn't love. I have been mixing scrap meat and canned dog food with his kibble to entice him into eating more. He really isn't falling for it but did make a dent in his dinner tonight.
There is just something so wrong on so many levels yet something so funny about seeing a 2.5 pound hen galloping about with a meat denuded rabbit leg in its beak and a string of eager comrades following her in hot pursuit.
Pictures of the new babies tomorrow!
