The Old Folks Home

Sour is NOT old. END of discussion. Thank you.

When one of my grand daughters was quite young she touched one of the age spots on my arm and asked, "What's that?" I told her it was an age spot because I was old, and she said, "YOU ARE NOT OLD." Her other grand father had just died.

Mom wouldn't come back North because she wouldn't leave Dad (who had been buried for 32 years :barnie). At 95 she called and said, "I want you to come down here." So down we went. She had made the arrangements to move into an assisted living facility that my cousin had spent her last years in, took me to her lawyer and had me named as executor on her will and put me in charge of her finances "to make sure her bills got paid on time." She kept her home "Just in case I want to move back." She was an interesting lady - I miss her.
She sounds like quite the lady!

That's kinda sad. . but I understand why they want different life. My hubbys family are farmers. . he kinda lost his dream when his grandfather passed too early in life. He was very close to him and was a big part of the family farm prior to his passing. His grandmother favored other grands over him so he was pushed out. He became a steel worker instead. Just as hard of work. . but it pays the bills. His boss also farms and runs cattle and hubby helps do that work too after all day building barns. :th
It's a hard nuf life that's for sure.

I would think assisted living would be better than a nursing home. Spend most of your remaining life either in bed or a chair?? No thanks.
Ultimately, it was better for her. At first, we weren't sure she could manage the assisted living. But she did cardiac rehab (she would proudly tell you she was the oldest person to "graduate" from the program) and got strong enough that she didn't need as much help as she did right after her heart attack.

Pull up a rocker dear, you want so tea and crumpets?
I'd love some tea! (What's a crumpet? I'll try one!)
