The Old Folks Home

Diva I can relate to your BIL killing the smoke detector. :lau
I have just about killed a few myself! The one in the RV is terrible it's right over the stove! Every time I cook it goes off! :rant:lau
Ummmm stop burning dinner? :duc:oops::gig:hugs Having rented RVs, yes, I know what you speak of. Sure would be nice if they made them switchable so you could turn them off and on. Off when cooking, on when not.

Dang Cynthia... what a post! Thanks for all that info! Glad you finally got some rain... without severe damage. :) Sure wish IO could get some down here... I'm more dry than Micro. At least she's had a few storms go through...

How is it you can love someone so much...but that same person can almost make you nuts?

"ALMOST"??:he

I was seriously trying to sleep last night and then the smoke detector started making beeping noises. Hubby was still awake, so he showed up and fixed it. Why can't they let u know they need a new battery during daylight hours instead of 1 am?:rant

When we bought this house, as per regulations, it had smoke detectors in all of the bedrooms and in the hall near them, hard wired to each other and to the house's electricity, but with a battery back-up. Naturally, when the battery failed, one would start beeping, and you often couldn't tell which one it was because they were just a few feet from each other. Pulling the battery wouldn't shut them up; you had to find the right one and replace it. We were given specific instructions not to unplug any of them while the circuit was live, because it would kill them all, and sure enough, when Hubs got fed up in the wee hours one night and simply unplugged the beeping one, all of them quit working, permanently.

Ever heard the fable about the little boy crying wolf? These warnings that turn out to be false alarms, repeatedly, cause folks to expect them ALL to be false alarms and then when the real one comes along... well, you know the story... I know they really ARE trying to be on point and NOT make false calls. Just trying to save folks lives and all.
I do worry about that!

@Cynthia12 Please tell me you have made this an article on here how very well put ... I was taught as a child bring in the eggs simply take you bucket out collect them bring them in the barn eggs all went there in the "cold" room
I didn't write it, I was shown it and just posted it here. We've come a long way from being careful, to being overly cautious with so many things today. My opinion. :)
