Stay alert and stay safe all you east coast BYC peeps.

Storms are unpredictable. Gordon was scheduled to drop 5 inches of rain on us. We got 2.75 inches. Friends in PA got over 6 from the same storm.

Another chilly morning here. Just a reminder that it's time to clean out the chimney and stove pipes. I'm taking it easier today. Overdid it yesterday with the mowing. Woke up feeling like I'd been on the loosing side of a prize fight. What don't hurt, don't work.

One job on the agenda is to get the 4.5 week olds out of the brooder and into the grow out pen in the coop. They are starting to smell like chickens and I told them they could stink out there with the rest of the birds other than stinking in my feed room. Gonna miss them though. These 4 have been the most sociable birds I've brooded this year. Any time I open the brooder, they are flying out and crawling all over me wanting cuddles and pets.

yup know the smell morning all have the 9 marans now 5 and 4 silky in silky coop it is meant for allot fewer birds the marans are still small not quite as big as silky but the smell is bad
The poo always smells worse when it is wet. Not looking forward to rain measured in feet!

BF has relations in SC, hope the storm does not do much damage.

Speaking of him, I got tired of picking up his clothes (off the floor) and decided to just haul them to the bedroom and leave them in a pile for him to take care of. So over the weekend I ended up doing 5 loads of laundry, as they sat there so long they started getting musty in the humid weather we have had for weeks :he

The problem I've found though is even if the inside of the coop is nice and dry, they track in muck from the run and dry becomes damp on top real fast.

Got the little stinkers moved and the brooder dumped out. They are standing there with huge eyes watching the other bantams move about the coop. Mamma Betty who has 4 chicks still following her around at 8 weeks came over and checked them out like she was thinking they were hers. Her #5 chick a little cockerel has weaned himself from mamma. Yesterday he was fighting with his brother. It was pretty interesting watching the mature hens run up to them and try to break up the fight. One of the oldest of the group finally chest butted them and then gave them each a peck on the head. That ended the argument.

Got a package in the mail today from friends out in PA. Opened it and it was full of plant starts for me and a set of hen salt and pepper shakers and a little rooster pitcher that could be used as a creamer. I'll get a pic later but the hen salt shakers are just the cutest little things.
