The Old Folks Home

I imagine without looking it up, the carcinogens involved, they swept everything wood coal industrial?
Just thinking about that guy on the old Mary Poppins movie .
Heard mad hatter came from making beaver fur hats with mercury. They actually touched on that on a Netflix show 'Frontier' about the Hudson Bay company and the fur trade in the 1700s. Good series, waiting for the next season.

I used a log chain balled up attached to a rope to clean our chimney, the way dad always did it. Not easy cause it's heavy and I hate being on a roof. Not much chance of hurting anything in the chimney, not like you can bash anything dragging it up and down 12" square long hole. Brush I admit would be a heck of a lot easier, but when you already have a chain?
Burning out a chimney, sometimes ok on a outside wall chimney, but not for a interior chimney with a shingle roof, a lot of heat in the walls and lots of hot sparks burning through the asphalt shingles into the wood roof.
I like my outside wood boiler, haven't cleaned or even thought of looking at it's stack. Has a little door at the bottom I clean out occasionally. It hasn't ever plugged up so no prob.

Just got up. Long long long day yesterday. Went out of state to our friend's funeral. It was tearful and beautiful. And exhausting..We hadn't been back to the town where we lived and worked for over 3 years so it was strange.....like we hadn't left at all.

Friends wife, also one of my closest friends was just a wreck but hanging on. I couldn't stop hugging her. They had just celebrated their 49th anniversary. Only 1 away from the big 50. They had been dating since she was 15 and he was 16 so they had basically spent their whole lives together. I held it together until they did the military rites, gun salute and taps. There is just something so final about hearing that lone trumpet play taps that starts the tears for me every time.

It was nice to see a lot of old friends but getting on the road at 6:30 was rough as was getting home around 5:30 last night. Went to sleep about 9 and just feel like crap today so I guess I over did it yesterday.

Plan to take it easy today and get my feet back under me.
