The Old Folks Home

Glad to hear that you are alright, Al. It was very strange hearing it live with the HAM operator saying "we are having an earthquake! Shaking hard!" He is still live doing Emergency Networking calling in all HAM operators in the area. Very exciting to hear but not too exciting for the good people of Alaska. They just said that Anchorage is without power.
Not surprised. Good shake, and they already had snow on stuff.

Probably won't last long.

Nasty.....

Worse than I thought.

Bridges and overpass damage will be bad.

HAMs operate emergency coverage using RACES and ARES. This one happened inpromtu. The guy was just on the air doing Alaska Pacific Net.ORG when it happened and they switched to their Emergency mode. Very smoothly done and the guy is just as cool as a cucumber in spite of sitting in the middle of it as it happened.

Everyone say a quick prayer for @Alaskan and Alaska in general.

DH and I just heard live on our HAM radio that there was a 7.2 earthquake with sunami warning outside Anchorage/kenai peninsula!
Al is in Homer.... Which is on the Kenai peninsula. We have been having little ones around here .... 3 pointers...

Here we have the New Madrid to worry about. Anything we can feel is scary!

We are still listening. Some are reporting aftershocks. No TV or Phones from what I just heard but HAMS are still perking! There is a saying with HAM operators that when the power and cell phones go down, HAM radios are still up and running.:yesss:
