Waste not want not. So if a meal or a big pot of chicken broth come out of the roo, he has served a good purpose. Probably not the destiny he had in mind, but chickens are not known to play chess on the checkerboard.

Lamb shanks done in the Instant Pot stewed with kalamata olives, grape tomatoes, garlic, fennel and wine, plus rosemary steamed potatoes and a nice Ranch-dressed salad.
Tomorrow night DH cooks. I understand he wants to experiment with avocado soup.

I love my IP, too. Made a quick, simple supper tonight. One can cream of mushroom soup, envelope of onion soup mix, half cup of water and venison roast cut into bite size pieces. Cook for 20 minutes, natural release for 15 minutes, served over potatoes. Last time served over egg noodles. It would be good over rice, too.

Well, I officially dispatched and butchered my first rooster today. I'd had enough of him, literally. He wasn't mean to me but he had attacked my last BO/Welly rooster to the point that I had to put him down and was acting aggressive towards the smaller roosters. I put him in rooster jail for a week. As a last resort, I put him in with my biggest toughest rooster, a roo that had broke other birds of aggression and had been broken of being aggressive towards smaller birds by a roo bigger than he was. Unfortunately, Godzilla struck out when he flew up, made contact with the coop ceiling and wound up on the ground with the aggressive roo on his head. I rescued him and thankfully he was just tired but that was pretty much the death sentence for the aggressive rooster as I couldn't put him with my bachelors and could put him with my breeders.

It was my first butchering. I don't want to eat him at this point, the butchering was rough at best as I hadn't reviewed the process for ages and was in a hurry. Basically just skinned, saved the legs and body which are now cooling in the spare fridge. They will be put in the slow cooker and the dogs will enjoy a chicken dinner.

I told DH it was obvious why this bird was so aggressive towards other roosters. His testicles were HUMONGOUS. But I was very proud of myself for getting the job done. If the problem pops up again, I'll be better prepared.

Congratulations @Peep_Show and @CapricornFarm on the new chicks. Going to Orscheln's tomorrow so I'll get to see the peeps they have in. Not planning on buying any. My Fayoumi chicks will be here the first week in April.

On a positive note, the rooster didn't have any signs of Marek's disease. This was one of my first generation Amish birds. For that I am truly grateful.

One of my worst was a welly , great for a long time then retarded mean. Hens were sweet though. My NN roosters haven't been the best, think a lot has to do with breeding don't think personally hatchery roosters are ever good.
Have three Nn/JG cross roosters in a coop together with hens right now and no probs. The JG old rooster is with NN hens in another coop, not sure what I'm going to do with him eventually, he's getting old.

Instant pot cracks me up, but good, greatest thing ever invented (like a hundred years ago) we have a four qt regular pressure cooker and will keep using it.
Some at work talking about them, make everything with them, even spaghetti , just toss everything in and BAM!

Funny about the roo is that he wasn't one of the bantam crosses. He was an Amish bred barnyard cross that I hatched in my Brinsea. I kept him around because he was really a striking rooster with gold and black mottled breast feathers and until last month not aggressive at all. Something just clicked in him and that was it. My bantam crosses are hard on one another but tend to get over it when they get their pecking order hashed out.

My big boy, named Godzilla, wanted to go back to the bachelor pen tonight so I let him. What was that line from Dante's Inferno? Better to Reign in hell than Serve in Heaven? The bantams push him around in the breeding group but the little bachelors think he's the hottest thing to come down the line since sliced white bread. He offers them food and watches out for them when the squabbles escalate. So he is back with his minions tonight. It's a better job for him anyway.

My two worse roosters were Buff O's. My best natured besides the bantams have been the Welly boys. Funny how some people have crap luck with one breed of birds and another with have great luck with the same breed. Gotta agree. It's all in the genes.

No I swear. No chicks tomorrow. NO NO NO NO!
