But really, it is good of you to donate especially as a universal donor blood type. I'm a boring old A+

Once the Red Cross finds out you're O-, you get these wretched emails about people needing blood and hospitals running out. Maybe everybody gets those, but I feel guilty. However, I'm very squeamish. It's a good thing we lie down. So I wonder about all these other donation options, but I don't want to ask questions and I don't want to read their brochures.

At least the phlebotomist could follow instructions. "Talk about anything but blood!" And especially no talk of "gushing."

I sold my plasma in college... good money.

That is where I learned my blood type.

If you go donate blood, they will tell you and maybe even give you a T shirt!

O- here also and, yes, the mailings telling you how everyone is counting on you to donate are endless.
I donate; I know there are others with my type that can not receive any other type if they need it. We are only type that can only receive blood that is our specific type.
Regardless of type, if you are able physically, you should donate.
I do wish the wait at our local blood drives wasn't so long...even with an appointment...but am glad so many here are willing to donate.

I'm still curious about donating "packed red blood cells" and other options. But all I want to know is, does it take forever? Does it hurt? Will they have to talk about it in detail?

Donating plasma was pretty fast...short lines ....

But.... I have very low bloodpressure... so the donation took long...20 minutes maybe??? Spouse has always had high blood pressure... so way faster, maybe only 10 minutes.

But they had a good selection of magazines.

I don't really like needles... I just looked the other direction.

Oh... and it didn't really hurt...
