The Old Folks Home

I wonder what the topic today will be...

I drove from Davis CA where I work to Novato CA, which is in the Bay area to pick up a Bresse pullet yesterday. Cute little 3 month old white with blue gray legs. She is very sweet.

It took me 1 and a half hours and I started on Interstate 80. During and after the trip a several things occurred to me. One was that I could, in about the same amount of time and depending on if I went East or West on 80, get to either skiing at Lake Tahoe or Wind Surfing on the Bay! Of course I don't do either so it would more likely be eating Sourdough bread and watching the Sea Otters on the Pier or Sipping hot chocolate while the Daughters Snow Boarded. Of course in the Summer I could fish by Tahoe. I do go fishing...

Number 2 was that a Stick shift in a traffic jam on a hill is a bit challenging--especially when cars like to hug your bumper. I did the parking break trick. Number 3 was that 3 hours of driving is a lot harder on me at my age.

Getting the Bresse was worth all of it!
Being from Cali, I remember those long drives. I use to commute from Riverside County to the Beach, Redondo Beach. That was 3 hours each way. Had to get rid of the stick shift due to always being in 1st or 2nd gear. Oh yea, those newer Cali drivers love to kiss bumpers. Most my life I lived under a couple of miles from work (loved the beach area) them I moved to the Desert and started to commute, late 80's til 93. You kind of become one with the road and surprising how many of the same people you would see each day. Yelling Hi and talking to each other while traffic was stopped. I sure don't miss the Cali Traffic. Funny, last time I was back after being out here in NC, where a traffic jam is 4 cars, I got on the freeway and in no time was back into the swing of fast driving, one finger flips and PO'd at everyone. Cali will do that to you...

OMG!!! (yes a younger persons term), I am rambling again. Stop it!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Ronott, laughs

I definitely didn't get a stick when I bought the newest car. I just run around town and having broken my right arm and couldn't shift . . . . only automatics from here on out!!!

Now, I know I am a Southerner!

When I saw "one finger flips" I thought (for a brief instant) that he was talking about the index finger. You know, the way country folk rest one hand on top of the steering wheel and raise the index finger at each and every car you meet. I thought Tick was saying they do that in Calif, too!

Ain't that nyce?

Quote: I got a deal on her and am going to get some hatching eggs from a local BYC member later. I could not resist getting this one--she was an addon from someone spending a lot of money on a breeding quad.

I will get pictures When I get back home tonight!

HAHa A lot of people do that here too. I usually try to raise 4 fingers on my right hand while holding on the wheel with my thumb. If they flipped any other finger at ya, I wouldn't know it. Now, driving in Austin is a whole 'nother story.

Yes, I had to have the Missus explain to me about that. It was really weird but nice moving here. I had to learn a new language, speaking (like the finger wave but on the porch or yard) and porch edict. Not many pouches in Cali anymore.... I grew up with them but now they don't exist much there anymore. It's funny but no one considers me a Yankee, just that weird guy from Cali... Which is a good thing I hear.....

Can't drive a stick very well. I did learn and in an emergency I could get someone to the hospital in one. Could never drive one on a daily basis. Ron I just made a 3 hour round trip to get Elle(the hounds tooth chicken). Shopping, a visit to the Paul w Bryant museum, breakfast, lunch, a coffee break some chit chat and supper were all included in this 12 hour trip. Yes we were gone from the house over 12 hours. I was plain exhausted when we got back. It even wore out my DD which is no easy task. Tick are you just now getting up? Also you can build coop 4 big enough to house 1 and 3's chickens. Then redesign 1 and 3 and fill it with new chickens. Coop 2 will eventually need remodeling so might as well do it too while your at it. I'm loving the nice weather will be sad to see it go tomorrow but it will be back the next day. I'm glad we have had a mild winter so far. I like using only the one jacket and not having to get into my thicker ones. Even the day it snowed my lighter jacket sufficed. I'm so enjoying my day off at the house all by myself. I got to spend some quality time with the chickens, sleep, ignore the housework that needs doing, and bother everyone on byc. Well at least until 3 anyways then it's housework, homework, baths, and supper.
