Having spent 37 years in the Public Safety community (in three different parts of California) and immersed in my career all that time, I am often surprised by the general public's view of The Police, which I've encountered in my short retired experience. Amazing misconceptions.
'Nuff said about that.
We got the ground leveled and the first set of boards constructed to outline the pond. 10 X 15 rectangle is a BIG pond. Whoot! Some of the footprint uses the spot where the 300 gallon stock tank rested; I found six duck eggs in the bottom when it drained. Silly ducks.
The ganders are not happy ... Both make little mournful honks when they walk to the spot where there used to be the ramp into the tank. The two kiddie pools are in high demand, now.
Several chickens helped till the pile of excavated soil. One, Stella, followed John around any time he had a shovel in his hands. Sarge the turkey gobbled in response to construction sounds all day long.
I do wish to have some pond plants, but I am sure the waterfowl will destroy anything green and tasty. (I followed Wifezilla's thread on trying to grow duckweed and other plants in her pond duck-ponics experiments.) So, we will see. I have had a pond pump squirreled away -unopened- which is one rated to handle muck better than most, and plan to build a "Skippy Filter" to assist in keeping the pond water cleaner, longer, between wash outs.
