Arielle, me too! :lau. Sorry, Oz. Must have been a precarious perch...

Although it was much cooler today, compared to yesterday, the temperature has been over my personal comfort level. Even with a fan on in the coop, I worry about the broody hens in their nest boxes. Although two of them are setting on the coop floor. So they get some air circulation. Two of the eleven gave up Friday, so "only" nine crazed hens are trying to hatch something.

I set up a second misting system on the deck, for ME, not the three goslings I'm raising there. (I installed the first on my pergola, for the flock.) The mist helped lower the temperature of the air flowing into the "poultry nursery room" off the deck.

One of the "packing peanut" BR chicks escaped the brooder. Normally, they just peep around in the room until I hear them and put them back. This one, however, went on an expedition. When it jumped to the foot of my recliner, I remained reclined and talked softly to the little bugger. Two weeks old this coming Tuesday, minimal handling and contact, yet this baby chick scampered up the length of my body and settled down to sleep on my shoulder.

It's back with its 7 brothers, the turkey poult and the 5 tutor chicks.

Yumm. . that might be worth dealing with airport security and then a VERY long flight!

Oz, you must be on a first name basis with the scanners!
i have done the trip 28 times and am approaching half a million miles with Philippine airlines. I pray i wont become a million miler.

the main baggage handler for passengers on connecting domestic flights is willie. i even have his cell number lol.

i know the airport staff well in LAX and Bacolod

DH made the trip to the grain store yesterday, as our reg deliv didn't arrive on Friday ( presumablby bc/ of rain.) and tonight he mentioned the BBB at the store and wondered if I wanted to cancel my cornish X order and get BBB instead. I said " noooooo" 15 cornish x take up less freezer space than 15 BBB ( and I"m thinking of the feed bill, yilkes) BUt now, he's got me thinking, maybe if I buy a couple BBB poults he won't notice.

Wouldn't mind a couple BBB hens to cross with my AUburns.

Out of couriosity-- how are you deciding which breeds of chickens to import?
I started out with the idea of solid dual purpose birds
Rhode Island Reds
Barred Rocks
Australorps
Jersey Giants
Orpingtons
Wyandottes
Dorkings
Bresse
Andalusians
I added some Marans and Wellsummers for egg color appeal. Will take creme legbars next trip.
I found a market for cutesy coops and cutesy banties.
I added golden sebrights, bantam cochins, silkies.

I want a menagerie of a free range flock. i added turkey, geese, guineas and peafowl.

Coturnix are popular there so i decided to try texas a&m as they dont have white meat quail.

It will take a few years to sort out which breeds do best

maybe emu next lol

No ameraucana? Gotta have blue eggs.

You r listed birds , are these hatchery, as in great layers, or from breeders and more dual purpose? Will you just let them breed and see who survives? I like the hardiness of the mutts and the feather colors. Many interesting new feather colors.

creme legbars for blue eggs, i do fancy some local sq white ameraucanas though. they are on the second list.

I have no hatchery eggs. most are heritage lines,

I have 14 mutt hens from my january proof of concept hatch as well as BLRW. They just started laying when i set the last batch.
