The Old Folks Home

Quote: Tooooo hot for me!!! I like 75 and breezy!! Or even 60's. I can do the cold but NOT the heat! GOod thing I'm 30 pounds lighter this summer-- much less insulation and better able to handle the 90+ weather. ( Of course going into winter last year, I was freeeeeezzzing cold without all that insulation. lol)

OVer cast and 75 today--- it's headed your way SCG!!

chicksnewtome what works best with fruit flies & gnats is those sticky yellow cards (about index card size) and I've had some success with fabric softener sheets. I use "Bounce" and put them around whatever bowl has the fruit in it - NOT touching the bowl or fruit. You can even use, used sheets from the drier than the scent is more subdued. I hate fruit flies and gnats.

I'm with you Diva-- I hate them too.

I often trap with unpasturized apple cider vinegar-- pour into a bottle with a little water, bottle should be a narrow neck. Flies in, cover top, shake. When dead, open cover again and repeat. Gross but effective.

these are beauties...or handsome if they are roos

Yes, 4 or 5 of the Pita Pintas are Roosters. 4 are pullets and the Basque hen is a Rooster.

I like them a lot!

Okra--I never could figure out how to cook okra so I would eat it. LOL I really need to as my kids ask for it at the grocery.

I love Okra and I have had it in soup, fried and with stewed tomatoes.....yummy, but last year I found out a way to eat it that is healthy and delicious. Roast it in the oven. toss in olive oil and a little salt and pepper and I like to add herb d'provence and roast at about 425. Better than french fries honestly. More flavor.

I could eat butternut squash with butter, salt and nutmeg all day long!!! I wonder if this can be canned?? My mother canned summer squash and the rubber texture was not the best. lol We did put up a lot of spagetti sauce though. My tomatos are way behind.

I made Curried Butternut Squash Soup last fall and still have some in freezer. it is rich and yummy.

I love the Pita Pintas! They are so beautiful! I can't wait to see what they look like when they are all grown up.
Here are some updated photos of my Straw Bale Gardens. I took these yesterday!

That sounds soooo delicious! I will have to try some!

I made some for my sister who swore she had never had Okra but I am quite sure she is wrong, and we were snacking on them and it was a like a fight to get the most. LOL
