The Old Folks Home

I'm going to check out some of the recipes for non gluten and non dairy foods. I have been eating a lot of fruits, nuts and berries since I have been on this diet. I feel like a squirrel or a rabbit (Bunny). I have always eaten plenty of dairy and wheat products, but I have been having severe headaches for years now. I will be happy to give wheat and dairy the boot if I can rid myself of them. I don't miss the dairy as much as I miss Krispy Creme doughnuts, cookies and cake. I love, love, love baked goods! My husband found me some gluten free pancake mix today and I think I will try them for breakfast tomorrow.
Thanks for the heads up on where to find some good recipes!

Keep NC in your prayers!
I think we are getting another storm in this area. There is a lot of flooding in the surrounding counties. Catawba county is just about 45 minutes from here and they had 8 to 10 inches of rain that fell last night in a 12 hour period. Lincoln county also got a tremendous amount of rain. We had about 3-4 inches here last night. Our farm is located on high ground, thank goodness! The rains we have been getting all summer are unreal!

Bunny, that is crazy! Glad you're on high ground. We've been getting a lot of flooding up here, too. Hopefully your storm isn't making its way up to us.

Bunny--Keep safe-- hope you have an ark.

Loads of interesting products on the market. I now buy things like cocanut flour, flax seed, sorghum. Xyanthan gum and some others will help your products be closer to what you are used to. ANd honestly , you are right on the money, if it makes you feel like a million bucks again, you will embrace the change.

So sorry Bunnymomma how horrible!
I hope you like the Gluten free pancakes! You just need some of my Pecan syrup to go on them!

Bunny Momma, here is a possible source, courtesy of a friend from another site-- I haven't reviewed as I can't get utube. Hope it is helpful.

Son has a friend that cannot eat gluten, so we have been introduced to that issue, but have much to learn. Many grains have gluten and it is the glue that holds cakes and pancakes together. Other components are used as the glue when non-gluten flours are used. IT is do-able. Bob's has gluten free pancake mix-- and if you google the recipe you can make your own if you like.

You might also consider adding either gluten or dairy back in after your headaches are gone for a while. Perhaps you only need to eliminate one but not both.

People exhibit more allergic reactions than are realized: exema is an allergic reaction. I always thought it was to specific material on my arms; but that doesn't explain my son's exema. He eats a whole some diet and shows no signs of exema now. Not sure if it is the diet or his body matured a bit. IDK.

Thanks so much everyone for the positive thoughts! SCG, I hope that this weather front dries up and stays away from you in Maine! I am so sick of all this rain. We are more used to droughts than floods. I have never seen anything like this in NC. I have lived in the state since 1967 and this is the worst flooding ever. I live in an area that is just about in the middle of the state. We live in an elevated area, but we are fairly close to the foothills where a lot of the flooding occurs. My Dad lives in the McDowell County area, which is in the mountains. He is near lake James, but he lives up on a hill that is solid rock! Many of the counties have lost roads and bridges and there were at least 18 swift water rescues and there are shelters being opened in many counties. Many people are trapped because they have lost access to roads that leave their neighborhood. I feel blessed to live where we do. I think we are pretty safe here.
Arielle, you could say I have an Ark of sorts! I have 26 rabbits in the barn, 200 or so chickens of various ages, a horse, 3 dogs, and one silly pigeon. All I need to do is put some giant floats on the house and barn and we are good to go. We have at least 2 of every animal! Except the pigeon! She had a mate, but he flew away a few weeks ago. She thinks she is a chicken and she hangs out with the Faverolles. That is a funny site!
I know that I would love some of that pecan syrup Chickadoodles, Pecans are my favorite.
I cannot believe how many people are on a gluten free diet! It is crazy that we have so many people with gluten sensitivity.
I would have never thought that was the reason for my headaches. Thanks everyone for sharing such great info on recipes. I am getting tired of trail mix!

Thanks Arielle for the link, I will certainly be taking a look at that!
This is a photo of my silly Pigeon!

Here is another link to some of the flooding. It has a lot of photos.

Ronott 1 That's probably right - I was subscribed to their state thread. I told them(jokingly) I should get special dispensation because my son lives there. I was on for quite a while and only a very few people would respond to my comments. I thought I was paranoid at first but, I got ignored more and more and decided not to force myself on them since I wasn't really welcomed.

I do know the thread was heavy chat about special foods and diet because of one food allergy after another - starting with gluten-free and spiraling into others. If they are snubbing you too, I wasn't imaging anything.

Sorry

It's ok, since it helped me to be very welcoming on the California Northern thread.

Treat others and all that. It is a very busy thread so I give them a bit of leeway.
