I asked this question on the EE thread but no one is answering. Maybe you guys will know the answer. I hatched several EEs from MyPetChicken on 5/14. 2 are"a matched pair" black, rose combed, and tufted. 1 is a roo,crowing, aggressive, and he is double spurred. The other I'm not sure about. She/He is smaller combed, single small spurs, and doesn't crow, but it has a full rooster style tail. I know EE is a mutt breed but could they carry Sumatran in their background? It just doesn't seem like a likely mix to me. It would be the only explanation I can find for the double spurs or a hen with a full tail( I'm hoping its a hen)

If I remember right MYC gets their stock from independant breeders, so hard to know what you will get mixed in. I have Games hens with spurs. Matter of fact I've had a lot of them. I have Games also that are mixed with Sumatra, so double spurs and they are so pretty when they feather in. But a Sumatra egg is either white or cream. I use white layers to check for roos that I hope produce lavender eggs, so maybe that's what someone had to test with.

I have seen Sumatra Roo's that can easily fly over an 8 ft fence, and have his way with the hens in the wrong pen or several pens. Just one of the reasons I have bird netting over my breeding runs.

So it probably wasn't an intentional mix. Would a EExSumatran hen look like a roo?

They may at first and if the Sumatra stock was nice, the hens would have bigger tails, which can through you off if you haven't seen one like that. It helps when those tails are bigger to produce the best tail in the roos.

My birds have a sporting chance with the ROtties. If I know there is a problem I can keep the dogs at bay with verbal commands . . . . . . but if the birds enter without asking me first . . . . never a good outcome.

Y'all are awfully quiet. Is it naptime in the old folks home? Where is everyone?

I attempted to sew a Spiderman mask today to go along with the red cape I just made for BF's nieces upcoming birthday. It's pretty bad compared to what I had pictured in my head and wanted to do.

I'm hoping the kid won't really care.

There's got to be a trick to sewing circles that I just haven't figured out yet.





I still have to make a black cape for the nephew (his birthday is 2 weeks later) and I'm guessing I'll need to make him a mask, too, to be fair.
