The Old Folks Home

SO you put the cake in the oven at the same time as the chicken?

And this myth is true?

Scientifically?

Wellll, you could, but I don't really think we want to go there. I don't know, would taking the cake out when it's done cause the chicken to "fall?"

After loosing 6 hens to predators I posted on a local ad thread that I was ISO for replacements. It is amazing how many replies I got. All were for 2 yr olds or older. Most said "they are played out and to tuff to eat". Picked 5 that had been turned out to fend for themselves( shed and water..no food or fences). I might just keep my flock going with unwanted hens. Is 2 yr is to old. They will still lay for a few years wont they?

Yes they will!

Good for you.

2-year-olds don't lay as well as birds that have just gotten to laying age, but they still lay. Most of the birds that I've had get to that age lay an egg every other day or so, versus one per day. They are a bit more likely to have picked up nasty habits like egg eating, though . . . .

Most my heritage breeds only lay every other day, some of the bantams only twice a week (they stay cause they are so cute). I'm Ok with 3-4 eggs a week from 1 hen.As for bad habits, I smoke, my hubby swears, we all have vises.

Please make sure you quarantine them first.
