We have two so far and two more have pipped. I'm waiting on the first two to dry so that I can move them to the brooder. They're playing Godzilla with the other eggs right now.

I used to wait for those skins to go on. I'm a city girl, but I had lots of family that weren't and I loved visiting, so usually I got to have everything first. One year waiting, my uncle thought he mess with me and told me that they weren't doing it this time, with some technical reason why. I was so disappointed, but then while out hanging with my cousins I could smell them. I ran in and he laughed and said ok, you first and handed me a big bowl. I filled that sucker up and ran for the porch avoiding hands trying to grab them. Everyone comes out with theirs and then my aunt comes out and says "What in the world?" Yells for my uncle and asks him if he wants me to be sick. He tells her to mellow out, that I'm not going to finish all that. Me being me I had to prove him wrong. I ate most of it. I was then restricted to the porch, since there was no way I was going to make it all the way to the porcelain god, so I literally laid out there while I puked over the porch, with my aunt fuming and my uncle laughing his head off.
Quote: I kept a note book detailing every detail, looking for I don't know what!! All the data paid off though.
I recorded info 5-6 times a day until I was sure of my methods. Outside temp, room temp, 2-3 readings in the LG. Humidity recorded every time even when no water added. I candled at 7 and 14 days to match the diagrams, and in between if need be. GOing into lockdown with the right size aircell was and is a challenge.
I was under the impression that eggs from the higher elevations hatch better than shipped eggs from lower elevations.
Glad you have had some improvement in hatching percents. Keep experimenting!!
Three out and wreaking havok on the remaining three eggs. I will post pics tomorrow. I don't want to risk waking Maddy who fell asleep (finally) in my room. She was still holding the flashlight that she was using to watch the chicks.
She's going through a "weave me wone" phase. Wants to do everything herself and gets downright indignant if you try and help her. Oh....and now all nicknames are off limits, unless she is actually pretending to be someones else(like Susan from Monsters vs Aliens) you may only address her as Maddy. I usually call her Pie.Cute little Maddy. That made me smile. I could just picture that.

Quote: I set up the LG last night as DH picked up some eggs from the BOston PoultryExpo. Dang, I have had that off for several months!! NOt geettig up to temp. Need to close windows and start the wood stove.
THis is why I wanted to move to dec/Jan broodies and why I went to the expo to look for buff orpingtons and silkies. HOping to breed the best Dec/jan broodies to raise up some chicks. NOw that I write out loud, this is just adding MORE chickens. . . . chicken math needs to get in subtraction mode!!
I'm praying these eggs are not fertile!!
Quote: You are hatching your own eggs right?? DO these even get started? Can you see veining at 5-7 days???
