HAPPY LOUSY WEATHER SUNDAY EVERYONE!

Hope I find you all safe and warm. Snow not starting here till later in the day. They revised the track and we will get some but nothing like you folks to the south and east. Are you New Englanders still with us?

Wow, can I relate to the cellphone thing! I love it when the grandkids visit and hang off the backporch with their arms outstretched trying to get bars

We both have those pay as you go cellphones for when we are in the car. Most of the area is a dead zone but we hope they will work in an emergency and of course they work fine in town

Curled up with my fresh cuppa and my blanket trying to get up the energy to go check on the girls.
Yaawwnn! Are you ready for some football??? Sounds like it's going to be fun watching the Packers "Snow Bowl" this afternoon.

Any game that pauses for rests, changes out complete teams to kick a ball an uses a tape measure is not football. Google: State of Origon Rugby League. Thats football.

Agreed! Although I am inclined to suggest googling "The All Blacks". That said I did always look forward to the state of origin series each year when I was younger....

You forgot to mention the crazy amounts of padding...

I was not with us for a couple hours. We lost power around 2 am and just got it back about an hour ago. I'm shocked that we got it back so fast. Our power company lists the outages on their website and at 2 am my county, my town and my secondary street were all the #1 offenders for being the most people without power. I guess that got us a priority for fixing. The ice storm is going to continue another 28 hours or so - so repeated outages are likely. I am thankful for all the people working overtime to salt and sand the streets, and for the power company workers. Canada even sent us extra line workers for this storm!
I went out this morning with my crampons on to let everyone out. I had (smartly) put a blanket over the goat gate (I have memories of climbing over the gate last winter when it was frozen shut) so the goats were no problem. The chicken gate required a ninja kick to break the ice on the handle and get it open, but the pop door was fine as it is under the roof overhang.
The ducks... were another story. I had used their cover up quilt on the goat fence, but they have an overhanging tarp so I thought they'd be fine. The tarp did cover their latch, but freezing rain dripped down the tarp and onto where the door and foundation and lower hinge was. No amount of kicking was going to help that. Had to go get the metal poop board scraper from the chicken house and scrape ice off enough to get the duck door open. Took about 30 minutes. I covered it with feed bags after getting it open to help reduce the ice before bedtime. I then walked all the way down to the mailbox to get the mail and discovered that I had forgot to bring something to chip the ice away, then sheepishly had to walk all the way back to the house. I'll go out with a hammer and screwdriver at some point today and get that puppy open and to take some pictures.

Arielle, you will probably not like my next quilt. The fabric I picked has more of a "halloween" theme to it. I may try and do a different style instead of the penny patch or may stick to what I know, for now. Not sure. My sewing teacher is having a quilt expert come in in January and do a special class on the 3-rail. I wasn't going to take it because the 3-rail looks so much easier than the penny patch that I did, but then she showed me the "compass" quilt that this lady did and it is exquisite. I know I can learn something from her and will take the class if it's offered on a weekend.

It is pretty here but very treacherous out. We've gotten at least a quarter inch of ice on the ground and a little less on upright surfaces. I'm waiting for the governor to officially declare my driveway as a disaster zone. And I am of course waiting for the power to go out, again.

this 3G thing is very new. the nearest 3G tower is 20km away but the signal skips accross the bay from Kabankalan. its very exciting as it will revolutionize our communication.

If we can get the signal like that at the house I can set up a security cam system with live feeds!
DOes that mean you can see the feed from CA???? Wonder how long it will take for the kids to figure out they can dance a jig for dad ??

I can admire a beautiful quilt even if it is not to my taste-- LOL A quilt show once held at the local ballroom dancing hall kept me enthralled for hours. THe compass quilt is the one with a zillion points coming together in the center as I remember--- THAT is the most difficult technique. Well worth getting a pros perspective on that. Took a knitting class years ago-- a pro taught it on color and design. She had knit two identical swethers in a medium forest green, with a pattern knit into it in black. A fox. In one of the sweathers, she added an orangey rust yarn around the shoulder area (yoke) and the whole designed popped. What ever the fabric, you'll add to your skills and because you picked the fabric, you will be eager to finish the quilt.

Glad you have power back.

Lovely.

Slippery here too-- melted now on packed ice walkways. IT is winter. We have the heat from the south warming us up-- a turtle neck is too hot outside. I"m wondering where my short sleeves are. lol

Cloudy, breezy, 83o here today - I feel for you guys, I really do (but I'm not going to feel guilty for enjoying this weather!)
Oh don't feel guilty!! Enjoy everyday no matter what the weather . . . I visited FL for a week long ago and decided I much prefered New England with out having to live indoors all summer with the AC running.

I think we are in the 60's again today-- too hot.

Sorry I've been MIA here. I've had the coughing cruds all week thanx to my allergies and my energy has been non existant. Maddy's Godmothers gave us a smoothie maker and we've been making smoothies near bout every day. I know winter is a wierd time to make smoothies, but they help my sore throat...and the extra vitamins don't hurt either. Yesturday we made peach ones. Maddy is a very good "smoovie" maker.

It's been nothing but wet and muddy here in East Tennessee. My poor chickens are not happy. I'm not happy and DH is exasperated with the lot of us, lol.
I did get out of the house last week. We went to a Christmas party at the fairy Godmothers' house. I got a wooden chicken that says "Kitchen closed, this chick's had it" and a huge box of chocolate cherries....yum! They got Maddy a Sophia the 1st doll. She carries it everywhere now.

I'm beginning to suspect that my littlest rooster, Cricket is actually a bantam. He hasn't grown an inch, and he seems to exist outside of the pecking order. The other chickens, except Dottie, completely ignore him. Oh...and he's actually clucking now instead of peeping.

Oz...the kids are beautiful. The piglets are cute, too.

I wish we would get some snow here...it would sure look nicer than all this mud.
