The Old Folks Home

I'd have liked to have taken a picture this morning, but I didn't have time and couldn't figure out how to set it up. On the computer screen, the National Weather Service forecast, showing the current temperature at the airport as 45o . A few feet outside my window, the thermometer in my back yard was reading 60o.Both readings were accurate, even though the airport is only about 5 miles from here.

Ain't January weather fun?!

Bunnylady sound like around here. Where I work is on the other side of a small mountain range to the west of my house. It can be sunny on one side of the mountains and snowing like heck on the other side of the mountains. I have even seen this between our town and the next town to the north of us. Sunny in one place, snowing in the other. Funny how weather can be.

It's like that here, too. We live in a valley surrounded by mountains. Sometimes a storm will get hung up on the mountains and go around us and sometimes it will come over the mountains and get stuck there, sitting on us for a day or two.

Well all my birds lived though the -55 F windchills here the first part of the week.

We have no heat in the coop and the insulation consists of 3/4 inch styrofoam. They must have liked the weather because every single hen laid an egg each day of that nasty cold. Tomorrow we are supposed to get to 35 F and I am thinking beach towels and bathing suits!

I would just be happy to stabilize at normal temps in the upper 20's to low 30's for the rest of the winter.

SCG maybe this is more like it?

You laugh but with if you exchanged the nice fluffy snow for pack ice, that could have been shot in my driveway. It is a spitting image of what I see when I start the curve.
Can't really tell on the photo below too well since it was a summer picture... but my almost 180-degree turn from the house down to the road:

You can also see some of the area we've dubbed "Mordor" - the complete annihilation of anything green living in the chicken run with the exception of the giant trees they haven't killed (yet).

The first pic looks like the road I drive down everyday after I leave the driveway! LOL I have trees like that at my place and I have been thankful daily in this cold snap that we have them. They really do break a lot of the wind that would blow here otherwise. You live in a beautiful place SCG.

Your place looks very nice.

NPR had a segment about Spain repopulating Rural areas with Ancient Native Horses. Apparently there is a big movement from country to City living. Yes, it has been going on for a long time too. I want to go backwards and live in the Country again.

Definitely a goal for retirement.
