SCG I'm telling your boyfriend. Just funnin' with you. I can see a tank top and shorts when it is that warm but, I would still wear boots tromping into snow. I bet he had flip flops on.

Well you're welcome I helped you fall asleep...sleeping, not bored you to death! I take no credit on what happened during REM sleep though...LMBO

Be warned...I bin told I cause massive head aches and pains in the rear...just wait till I go full blown genetics mode and we'll see issues; fall out, brain freeze, wide eyed gronks of make her STOP!

Then I start peddling pain meds on the side. How else does one get by, eh? <---that's a free stock tip...invest your retirement savings into pharmaceuticals and never mind the goose that lays the golden egg!! No such beast...like chicken teeth...ever more elusive.

blythspirit what wonderful stories about the dogs. It is unfortunate that we seem to hear the terrible stories more than the great stories like yours in the news. We have a rescue as well. She is a cocker/golden(?) mix and the sweetest dog you could ever know. When we adopted her, the rescue had already gotten her weight up and she looked really good but she was a bit aggressive about her space. I saw that everyone else was avoiding her and went over to pet her. She just melts in your hands if you scratch under her chin. She had me at "hello" and we have had her now for almost ten years.

ETA - DH just reminded me of one of her "things". She recently decided that the water in the bowl must be fresh water. Apparently as you get older, you can get picky about "stale" water.

She is beautiful, I love rescue dogs..they rescue us right back. What is your pretty girls name? (and my little Jackson has to sleep on my new blanket my husband bought me for my birthday..it's his blanket not mine..if I take it off the end of the bed to wrap up in he runs along beside me making little grumpy noises the whole time. lol)

We got something accomplished today. We got the bird netting put back up over the run. Good thing too, as the hawk has a nest right out back.

Tomorrow, car maintenance! Front end -shocks, brake pads, oil change, and whatever else on DH's truck. He puts some miles on it, with the 90 mile per day round trip to work and back.

SCG- I too have done the t-shirts and bare arms in winter thing. After really cold spells, anything over 32 feels like a heatwave!

as you guys rarely venture over to my diary thread, I though I would repost my monologue here - no NSAIDS or muscle relaxants required.

Its 5:40 Sunday morning in the Philippines.

A week from now, I will be sitting on my verandah with a cup of coffee watching the sky change from purple hues with pink to blue. It’s about 20 minutes until the sun comes over the island’s mountain range.

It has been a busy week on CocoBeach. Caprino is no longer with us. The cries of “Beeeeerrrrrniieee” he made whenever he saw his handler will never be heard again. Lessons learned and time to move on. We will have to make a decision to replace him with another buck or just try artificial insemination. I am in the process of researching transporting frozen semen in from the USA. There are several carprine sperm banks that have done it and have the paper work set up. It will probably take a transport tank and a more permanent liquid nitrogen tank. For the price of 2 Caprino I could get 20 straws from 5 different blood lines along with the tanks. Thereafter its just the cost of the straws. This may be the way to go. Clinically, I can handle the re-timing of doe estrus via medications. Mrs Oz and I went through multiple rounds of similar clinical therapies trying to have children. I feel confident that Bernie will be able to learn it as well.

Our pigs are growing so fast. The original 3 little pigs are pushing 120lbs and will be ready for breeding in 6 weeks. The boar is already 150lbs. He still lies down for a belly rub. They pens are going to become an issue real soon as they continue to expand. Work on the piggery will have to start soon – even if it is one pen a month.

The fence continues. We are getting about 40 feet a week completed now. The remainder is all hollow block and concrete – our supplies of scrap have been exhausted. 170 feet to go. Then they will stucco it and in six weeks that section will be complete. We have around 500 feet of beach front fence after that. It should be faster as we will use hollow blocks up to 16 inches above ground then bamboo.

Bernie built a duck house this week. Our ducks have not been increasing in numbers. We lost a lot of chicks to the storms and they had been using the crawl space of Bernie’s house to brood. The three sides shelter and a fish net run will give them a chance to multiply and make me some duck meat.

The first Guinea Fowl eggs of the season are showing up on eBay. I am hoping that ours will start in the next month. My father-in-law is very impressed with the Guineas’ colors and has not seen them before. The sexing of the Guineas yielded 9 girls and 7 lads. I am moving them to a large area near the ducks with a 3 sided shelter as I need the coop they are in for breeder chickens.
There is a lot of pressure on coops. I really don’t want to add any more. I have a plan to free up three coops by combining the leghorns and blue layers for now, moving the Guineas and relocating birds to the small white coop in the kitchen. I will then use the very small pig pens we currently have as coops. Between them, we should be good.

One hundred and eight quail are ready to reach sexual maturity next week. If I can successfully sex them this trip, and presuming we are 50-50, I will reduce the males by two thirds – around 33 birds. We will hatch a 100 and see how we go selling them. Our white Texas A&M numbers are low so I may boost them. I want to end up with 30 hens of each type – the white meat Texans and the dark meat Jumbo XLD-1. If we build a market then we can rapidly boost numbers.

Chukars…. They just eat and poop. Lets see what happens.

Bernie’s knee is apparently back to normal. I have him a brace to use when he knows he is doing work that could twist it – like dealing with handling pigs and goats.

Aljay will go to the Agricultural College Monday to begin the enrollment process.

I have coveralls for the boys to wear in the egg house and brooder room. I am trying to improve internal biosecurity.

Whats app and the Smart Phone have been a Godsend. I have been receiving pictures as things happen so I can make decisions and can send PDF and other files via email to Analou to increase accuracy of instructions given.
