The Old Folks Home

"If you make one, do not glue it together first. The glue from a glue gun will clog up the sewing machine needle."

Sounds like the voice of experience, Ron......

We are hosting a guest dog. Riley, the beloved canine daughter of a friend/neighbor, is staying with us while they go to the beach. Riley is spoiled. She can't be bothered with housebreaking, has no manners, and is diabetic. She has special food, a strict routine, and must have shots every day. I have already been honored with a soft, warm, smelly gift, left in the middle of the floor, AFTER we walked this morning.

I am the only one that is even considered capable of caring for her, and I can expect daily phone calls to check on her. She will be here until next weekend. In return for keeping her, her "Mom" boards my house dog, feeds and waters my outside dog, and checks on the chickens for me while we are on our summer vacation.

I think I get the best end of the bargain!

If I were you, I'd leave that dog outside for 30 minutes after a walk. It won't kill it to be outside for a little while. That kind of behavior is one of my worst pet peeves I can think of. Nothing can take me from pleasant and easy going to an outright witch than to have a freshly walked dog, take a potty break inside the house! I had one like that. He became an outside dog very very quickly.

Maybe one other thing can turn me into Ms. Hyde in a matter of moments... that would be some critter messing with my birds!

If I take it off him, I'll snag you a picture.
How about a picture with it still on? That would show correct placement for those of us still just thinking about this whole thing.

Thanks Ron. This is cotton fabric and I just sewed on spot on each end of the fabric as I have to go get some more velcro maybe at the fabric store. I put the little collar on a year old rooster that does crow and he faught it so hard then laid down like he was going to die. It was not that tight I put my finger between the collar and his neck. But I loosened it up more and will tighten it some more tomorrow and see how he does. I really need some more velcro so I can make several and see which style might work better.

They say for the best results get industrial strength velcro. It makes a lot of difference.

Well...... An odd something today, can you'll give me some guesses please?

When I walked through the chicken yard today I saw one 2.5 month old pullet, all of a sudden, has a wry tail. And, it isn't just the tail, it is as if she goes crooked higher up on her back, so one wing is a bit higher than the other.

It is a significant defect, so I do NOT think she had it yesterday (but I am old...etc. etc. I guess I could have missed it if it started as something small)

They are NOT free ranging, so I do not see how a predator attack could have caused it. The only rooster is a tiny bantam, and then same age cockerels..

It is just odd....

This is NOT a new coop set-up, so if something in there is dangerous/damaging I think it would have shown up before...

Anyway, do you'll think it could be

1. Genetic, just showed up late, and suddenly (or it was always there, just suddenly got worse)

2. An injury..but how could that kind of injury happen?
