We have our share in the Philippines. At this time of year its pretty bad. I figure 8 bites whenever I go out to the coops and three just getting from the car to the house.
I buy back woods insect repellent by the case which helps a lot but with a decent breeze, there are very few at the house.
Fortunately, while I get more bites than anyone - mosquitoes love me - they dont bother me after 10-20 minutes. I just need to keep busy during that time.

The Production thread and some of the Heritage threads have discussed meat production and dual purpose. German New Hampshire is always at the top of the list.

A deciliter is one tenth of the SI standard unit for volume, the liter. Then we have centiliter, 1/100th of a liter, and milliliter, 1/1000th of a liter. One teaspoon is 5ml, and one tablespoon is 15ml. One cubic meter is 1000 liters. A liter of water weighs one kilogram. This makes conversions super easy. I prefer it to imperial units![]()
I got some "Insect Shield" clothing to try out. Wearing the bandana on my head causes the bugs that are usually circling my head to just give up after a few tries and give me some peace. I tried the shirt the other day and had no bites on my arms. The unfortunate part was the bugs were still hungry and my lower half was unprotected. I guess the seat of my pants is the tightest fit in that area, because it sure does have a lot of bug bites on it, now. That's a side effect of the clothing not listed on the label.
Thanks for the info - I'll check him out this winter when I'm looking for hatching eggs, although the name is a bit... odd. Hate to see "payment to Catdaddyfro" on my credit card statement. The NSA is likely already confused about many of my activities.
Microlitres! Picolitres! HooRah!
I wish we would just convert like we were supposed to in the late 80s. It's a pain to have two systems. You have to have twice as many tools (metric versus standard) and the conversions aren't that easy. When you guys measure for a cooking recipe is it in metric?
Some crazy remnants of the "apothecary [or avoirdupois] system" are still present in pharmacy. There's a few drugs still dispensed in grains, and some volumes are still in drams (these are units of measure).

x2 we use cup, tsp., tbsp., quart, gallon and so on. Sorry I was lost.![]()

@CanuckBock I love reading your posts! Your animals are blessed to have you as their caretaker.
I see you lurking there!
Okay, lets start a discussion. I have 45 or so chickens and three guineas. I want everything else I see, goats, geese, llamas, donkeys. I am conflicted between my love of my animals and the concessions my family has to make for me to have them. There is the time I must devote to them, the money I spend that could be put elsewhere and the emotional attachment I develope. Is there anyone else who worries that they are not being fair to the rest of the clan?
