The Old Folks Home

I think we've got you beat with our suicide rates though. What I find interesting, is that I think we're number three when it comes to gun ownership in the world, but we still have pretty strict legislation when it comes to them, and usually we prefer blades when it comes to acts of violence. Or fists. And in most cases, alcohol plays a crucial part.
Suicide, blades, alcohol may all be part of being close to the arctic circle.

That kind of things would be cool to do if we had a proper spare bedroom. We do keep a lot of potentially dangerous stuff around here though, like (legal veterinary) drugs and weapons, so I might be a bit weary about who I'd want to share my home with.

Caution in all endeavors.

That's another thing we beat you in. We are the most free people in the world, if you look at how many countries we can travel to without a visa. I think it was 173 countries, while the US passport "only" allows you to go to 172 countries without a visa.

You win by a point.

Nice pie.

My preference is to be cremated, but not this week.

This is what's going on around here: www.yubanet.com/CAFires/SandCA.php
This fire started yesterday afternoon. It's moving up the canyons of North Fork of the Cosumnes River; I live near the Middle Fork. However, today the fire is also moving up other canyons to the..... Oh, Southwest of here, and I know some folks who live in the evacuated areas.

It's very smoky but the sound of the air tankers and helicopters is reassuring.

Good luck to you.

When I was a child I had a lot of older relatives so it seemed like I went to a couple funerals every year. It seemed like tradition to be buried so for many years I declared that I didn't want to be cremated. Now that I'm older, I really don't care, once I'm dead.

:hugs

Don't like fire close enough to my house tgat I can smell the smoke. Nope, no way, no how!

There was about one super smoky month up here in the early summer.

SCG, thank you, it was. Ate most of it myself (over the course of many days).

gryeyes, keep away from the flames and remember, stop, drop and roll. And only YOU can prevent forest fires. (How on earth has that managed to crawl up into a Finns head?)
