The Old Folks Home

Vehve, am I the thread killer?

I spend a lot of time on my soapbox. I am old though.

The weather since winter has been amazing, except a few stretches of too much rain. But, it looks like we'll get some real summer starting this week

There have only been 20 days at 90 or above this year. It will be in the mid to upper 90s for the foreseeable future though.

More mayhem last night. There was an attack on the command center. A few people were shot. Several arrests. First the city police gave way to county police, then the state highway patrol came in and now the national guard is coming in. One of the main streets for commuting will be closed until further notice. There's no excuse for the violence.

Authorities never released the results of the autopsy so the parents got an independent autopsy and the preliminary results of that one were just released. Michael Brown was shot at least 6 times in the head and upper body from the front and all at some distance. (no evidence of gunpowder) One shot was in the top of his head, probably indicating he was either slumping or already on the ground.

I for one enjoy you on your soapbox, as well as your depictions of the latest events in St. Louis.

Any sign of people getting tired of rioting?

I took two crates of Silver Campines on a seven hour roadtrip to swap with another breeder. When I first arrived, I was pulled up under the awning at the hotel. I had the back hatch open on the van and was fussing with water and feed when a brand new, bright yellow Camero (ala Bumble Bee Transformer) pulled in behind me. The driver of the Camero called out from just outside the car, "Are those baby eagles?"

We had nice weather over the weekend, but now it's pouring down again, and it's really windy too. The rain radar is showing over 40 dbZ. I was going to plant a plum tree we bought today, but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

This is by the way sort of cool, all kinds of semi realtime weather info about our capitol area.

DiDi, I know you like outdoor, landscape, and nature shots, but have you thought about doing set up shots of chickens, like at poultry shows? I know that the shows are always looking for someone to do the pictures, and it is usually anyone they can find with a camera. I think that if someone set up a booth, they could charge for really good pics of those show winners and/or any others that people are proud of.......just a thought.............
The biggest show I've been to was the Heartland Classic in Cape Girardeau, MO. They had a photo booth set up with a nice backdrop. I don't know if they do this at other shows but they photographed all the winners and the picture of the bird went on the trophies and plaques. They were pretty cool.

How long before 1967 were you born? I would be grandfathered, as well, by about five years......

"Yes, yes they are. You can never have too many eagles."

You took the words out of my mouth. I was just going to post that, lo and behold I look at the next post and there it is.

Of course, eagles! That would explain it!

Yesterday one of my birdbrained Barred Rocks tried to climb up my arm when I put their feeder down, causing a couple of relatively deep scratches. I'm not usually a "bleeder," but it's sweaty weather, and my arm was quickly a nasty-looking mess. I had to come into the house and get cooled off and dried off to stop the bleeding (go around chickens like that - I don't think so!) "A chicken scratched me" sounds so pathetic, but eagles' talons - now, that's an injury that gets a little respect.
