The Old Folks Home

Dude, coulda sworn you said the first three were straight, you drank a six pack, and then the fourth was crooked. Maybe my "oldtimers" is kicking in? :lau
yeah. After the 6 pack i stopped working. I dug the hole for the 4th but figured i should wait before cemented it in

Of the 15 eggs that are due to hatch today, I have 2 pips.

I don't know what time I set them but I normally do so later in the day.

I do recall a lot of turmoil after MLKs assassination. I was in high school.

There is so much history that has been forgotten. A lot depends on who writes the history books. Bless the journalists of the time.

About all I can remember of history books in grade school are things like the invention of the cotton gin, the major wars, etc..

Not until I was an adult was I aware of the Paraguayan war between Paraguay against Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. It killed a half million people from 1864–1870, possibly another million to disease. 90% of the male population of Paraguay were killed. How can something of that scale not be in history books?

Probably for the same reason that our Civil War isn't featured in many foreign texts. The Paraguayan War is something you encounter in college if you are a history major interested in Latin American history.

Most Americans don't even know about the French conquest of Mexico, and President Juarez's successful organization of efforts to send them packing.

I try to forget some of those things but in my minds eye, I can still see the events. Shameful.

Do you need a carpentry discussion?

I don't recall the '68 riot in St. Louis. I do know there were terrible race riots in East St. Louis, Illinois in 1917 that officially killed 39 blacks and 8 whites but other reports put the total at closer to 400.
It started because people were angry that blacks were getting good industrial factory jobs. Then rumors spread about black men fraternizing with white women.
3000 white men descended on the downtown area and randomly attacked black men. Over 200 buildings were destroyed. They even killed a 14 year old boy and scalped his mother.
The governor called in the national guard but reports were that they joined in on the rioting.
It begs the question, why? And the phrase, can't we all just get along?

Quite obscene. I've never heard of it. My folks in La were very segregated. I never spoke to a black until I went to work at 19. They started desegregating the year I went to La Tech in Ruston La. One black man in a sea of whites and he was in my journalism class. I never talked to him. My mama told me a story once when she was about 12. (1938) or so. She was walking down the road and a truckful of blacks came by. One boy that was about her age stuck his tongue out at her and grinned because she was walking and he was riding. Mama went home mad complaining about the boy. Later that night, a group of men came to the house and asked her to identify the truck and the men and especially the boy. Scared her to death and she suddenly had amnesia and couldn't remember a thing. ha. The men went away very disappointed. Her Dad beat her because he knew she remembered and embarrassed him. What would they have done to that "uppity" boy?

Question: When you say "paprika" do you mean like the Hungarian spice pepper? Because that looks more like a green bell pepper sliced up from here to me. It looks wonderful. Any seasonings?

Well, yellow peppers in this case, but yes, that's exactly what it is. Yellow, red, orange or green will be fine. I put a bit of salt on the (room temperature) meat before frying it, and I poured some sweet chili sauce and soy sauce on top of the servings.
Looks pretty good but yes, we need this to be translated into American. And can the next episode be about carpentry?

Quote: The carpentry part is mainly chronicled in my coop build article, usually I just offer (un)helpful input on other people's builds, and the occasional shot of something I've put together.

It's perfectly healthy to be a bit sick.

Depends on the education. Some of the dumbest people I know are lawyers and doctors. Sure, they're experts in their fields, but often a bit of common sense is lacking. Us engineering types are better suited for understanding broader concepts

Emmett Till.

Quote: We use weight for meat, pieces for stuff like onion or bell peppers, usually volume for flour, sugar, fluids and whatnots. Weight is more and mroe popular in recipes though, and I prefer using weights. In this case, I went with about a similar amount weightwise, but it doesn't need to be that exact. You can just ballpark it, it will taste good.

I think you are right, even if the pure science types think we're a little dim.

We took Maddy to her Fairy Godmothers' house to get her hair cut. They'll shave it at Vandy, I know, but we thought it would be easier if it was already shorter. But...but...

My friend who is family practitioner said if he couldn't practice medicine there's nothing else he's qualified to do.
His girlfriend is a nurse. We were talking about chickens and she asked what a rooster was. Even he looked at her like she was from outer space. She said, in her defense, "ask me anything about medicine and I can give you the answer. I don't know anything else."
