The Old Folks Home

I'm going to jail tomorrow! Just as a working visitor.... Inmate deposition. Out in the boonies in Guadalupe County where nothing but weather happens. This makes the fourth prison I've been to in my career. Kind of fascinating, really. Some are fairly modern (High Desert, NV...OJ's home for awhile) and others are absolute pits (San Quentin...nice view, though.) Different protocols for each....and the firm is always happy to send me because no other court reporter wants to go.....the little prima donnas.

@Cynthia12 From what I've understood, MTV has this show about teenage mothers, basically you could be a great grandma in your early forties... Just sayin...

Unfortunately, that is so true. The way kids are going at it these days, if their child followed suit and then the grandchild did too........getting prego in their early teens. So sad but true. Have you seen those ignorant girls on Maury Povich and Jenny Jones, (she's not around anymore.)??

Fascinating. Never would have guessed the protocols would be so different.

@perchie.girl totally with you on the feral dogs. :rant

@beverly evans i have some bantam Ameraucanas, super cute and TINY, even for a bantam.

And, drum roll.... FIRST PULLET EGG

And WHO won the egg laying race? Contestants are

1 - Dominiques from both Cackle and a breeder

2 - golden pencilled Hamburgs from Cackle

3 - dark brown Leghorns, rose comb from breeder

4 - white rose comb Leghorns from breeder

And only one week younger

5 - bantam blue laced red Wyandottes

Now, I was about to say the Dominiques won, but actually, I was thinking it was nice that the d'uccles had started laying more again...... And my two white RC Leghorns are pretty red in the face.

Hummmmmmm

Well, hi folks, it's late but I wanted to check in and tell you that a predator got my one and only Basque last night.

She was my favorite of course because she was so inquisitive and friendly. I know that I was pushing it but can't get my hardware cloth until payday. Hate that. My white rock eggs are on day 13 and spiking temps all day long. I've been taking off the top for a couple of minutes until it stabilizes. Usually just one degree up. I continue taking it off in the afternoon for 2 hrs to get the temp down to around 75. Even with the top off the humidity is so high here that it's in the top 30's. I was waiting for my SG Dorkings on the 22 nd and then found out the it's Sept 22. Which is better for me. Tom in Pa promised to replace the basques and coronation sussex for me for shipping in Sept. I'll contact him in a couple of days to find out if the offer still stands.

Nice horse, nice rig, very cool house. Is that big horse a Percheron (sp)? Therefore the name? He's gorgeous! I just found out I can't ride anymore either due to deteriorating vertebrae. So sad! Sorry you lost all your animals and so horribly. Will you get more chickens? And maybe one of those big white dogs that scare coyotes away to guard your flock? : )

Katee is a Percheron and shes a small one. Only seventeen hands one inch. Which makes her half an inch taller than me... I am five foot eight. Shes only about 1600-1800 pounds when she is fit. Right now shes about 2000 lbs. I built that cart its made of Hickory. It came to me as a plie of sticks on a pallet and a set of Amish made wheels. I had to finish the wood and in some cases cut to lenght and drill holes. All the hardware was there for assembly. The kit was half the price of an already assembled one. And a third of the shipping cost from New Hampshire to San Diego.

Right now I live with my 98 year old Grandma taking care she has the life she needs to have. I cant do chickens till I can move up there and live full time. When I move back I will have several dogs for several purposes... Livestock guardian, Ratter of some kind, possibly another Rosie type dog she was my girl for 17 years till last summer.

Rosie

She was a wise old soul who could jump a six foot fence and rode shotgun with me on the center console of my truck. Saved her from the pound she was silly and sweet. When wed get to the top of the hill before turning on to the road getting to my house I would let her out of the car and she would ghost me through the Chapparal till we got home.

It would take all those dogs to replace her...
