The Old Folks Home

Oh, and there I was thinking I was being all slick ordering up gobs of sex-link eggs to make my flock. You know the old adage "We make plans and God laughs"? Well, I'm hearing the chuckling now. Starting out with 41 eggs I have a grand total of three (3) CQ pullets and one undetermined OE, 3 Welsummer roos and 4 CQ roos. 5 eggs left in the incubator on Day 22. Of course, the brutality dispensed by the USPS didn't help the hatch rate either...about 25%. But not a single Welsummer or OE pullet? (Well, there is that one OE that we won't know about until later, F2 marans over marans + CCL) AND that's not including the dozen TJ's that were set and pulled due to the fertile eggs turning up all clears.

So off to Round 2 of hatching. Other than a few token Welsummer eggs I think I'll go with the nonsex-linked this time. Thinking about Wheaten Marans and Black Bresse. Of course, that being said, the tide may turn the other way and I'll be inundated in pullets. (There are far, far worse fates IMHO)

Aww, Maddie has a cute voice, and she looks like the angel she is while sleeping. So happy that she is recovering quickly.

Kisses being blown right back at her. :)

Have to do this..just have to.. did someone say toilet paper..a while back? I think so!

I couldn't help it, I'm getting tired. I'm still getting over this ol cold. So, silly me. But I can just hear that cat actually thinking something like that. :D

Yay I'm in a cooking mood too, I have the water boiling and will throw in an ear of corn.
Presto, change-o - some people might need salt or pepper and butter but, I like my corn straight.

Funny thing me too. I wrap mine dry in saran wrap and nuke it till it smells like ... corn... LOL. Ten minutes for three ears... give or take. I like it as a tv snack Cold No nothin on it.

Been really busy this week. We tiled the bathroom floor and it was our first time. Really looks good. Now to cut new shoe moulding and replace the toilet.

Tnspursfan09, glad to see Maddie doing so well. Saw the video and she is a doll.

All this talk about food has really got me in a cooking mood. Think I'll make homemade spaghetti tomorrow, with lots of mushrooms, onions, and garlic.

ooh I wimped out on the tile job I wanted to do.... Got it done by a local boy... He drove me nuts but did a perfect job... NExt is the Kitchen.... It needs to be gutted rewired floor rehabbed then tiled OR I am thinking just concrete with a floor drain....

Quiche for dinner tonight. Got an overabundance of eggs that I needed the egg cartons from.

Ooh Quiche with Avocado.... and bacon.. and tomato....

Last time I made Quiche was with Bantam Eggs... it takes 1.5 bantam eggs to make a regular egg. I had so many eggs I made three Quiches with Croissant dough crusts.

Deb, neither of us eats shrooms, she just likes to pick them and give them away. The yellow ones are easy to recognize, they're chanterelles, the other is herkkutatti in Finnish.

And yeah, it's a two container composting toilet.

Alaskan, moving the outhouse is loads of work... And no need to protect the paper, it's under a roof.

but....uh..... an outhouse isn't air tight (wouldn't want it to be) so the damp creeps in and a bunch of spiders and what not. Just eeeeew.

I have used lots of outhouses, the best ones have the paper all locked up tight. No one want spiders on their behind.

You keep the toilet paper in one of those really big coffee cans that comes with a plastic lid.

And, it isn't that hard to move, just a wooden box. You back the truck up against the house, tip it in the bed, move the truck, tip it back out. Just moved one this summer. Depending on use, you only have to move one once every few years to maybe 10 years.
