No, it won't help because China is building a new old style coal powered plant every week or so.

It will make no difference at all, other than turtling the US economy.

The problem with "cutting down" is that as the population grows, you're right back where you were, or worse. Either work on keeping populations down, or admit that it is only smoke and mirrors.

Personally, I'm disgusted by the raptor choppers and songbird stewers being promoted as an alternative.

The first, and best, approach to any human caused global warming is to literally eliminate all pronatalist policies.

That means no free school, or any other benefits including cheap medical care or welfare, after the first two children. No tax reductions or subsidies for more than two children. And there should be restrictions for the wealthy as well as the poor on reproduction.

You will hear the screaming and moaning from NYC to SF.

Made me think of the time I had my Mustang, Rose picked out to eat fenceline grass. Had two minis at that time and one of them was deaf and 80% blind. Rose would put on her "I'm the big BOSS Mare" act and the little deaf and near blind mini wouldn't respond the proper way. So Rose was determined to kick her butt and I had to keep them separated. I carefully measured Rose's rope so she wouldn't be in range of the little mare. So thirty minutes later I hear sharp squeal and come running around in time to see the little mare butt over teakettle. Rose was leaning her full weight against the rope around the tree with her neck totally extended, drawing her foot back to take another kick. I shouted "NO!" to her and she looked me right in the eye and as the little mini regained her feet kicked her square in the face! I roared and rushed her full pace. She ran to the extreme that the rope would let her go. A small voice inside my head piped up with, "What are you doing? That mare just kicked the &*(&* out of that mini! You aren't immortal or invincible." "SHUT UP!" I shouted at the voice. "She looked me dead in the eye and defied me. She knew what she was doing. I CAN'T let her get away with that!" I followed down the rope and proceeded to "explain" why you don't defy me and kick little minis in the head.

It was a h3!! of an endorphin rush!

I have to agree with you that population limitations are necessary. The things that need to be free or low cost are the methods of contraception. It is not the complete answer but just a part. One of the things I made sure my two daughters knew as they were growing up is that I didn't want them to feel that they needed to be in any kind of rush to run out and give me grand-kids. Go out. Get your feet on the ground. Don't have kids till you are at least 25. Let yourself grow up first. Make sure that the daddy wants to help you raise them. Also since diabetes runs on both sides of the family if you fall in love with someone who has the same history seriously think of adopting. Our genes are not so special that it worth risking a serious health issue on a baby. There are tons of children out there that need loving parents.

I'm not sure that I want a hybrid anyway, at least the ones that use electric. I've been reading up on them, and ultimately they have a higher carbon footprint, and cost way more in fuel. Not the vehicle itself, but the emissions from producing the electric from fossil fuel, to power the hybrids, is worse that the emissions from the vehicle using normal unleaded fuel, with working catalytic converter, etc. The cost of the electricity needed to power the hybrids translates to a higher cost, mile per mile, than gasoline.

Here is something else that is very hypocritical regarding carbon footprint, and fossil fuel reduction. In Florida, it is totally illegal to go off grid for home electric. They just arrested 24 people in a community that was specifically built to rely totally on solar power, with generator back up if ever needed. This is not a community of crackheads that can't afford to pay their electric bill. This is what one of our governors did to help the energy companies here.

That is so wrong. It makes my blood boil. Some places in Florida have also persecuted people who grew edible gardens.

The big bouquet trick worked in the front on photos, though. I knew someone who married when his new wife was about 20' from the delivery room - she had a bouquet that looked like the wreath they put on the Kentucky Derby winner.

Up until WWII there was a branch of the Dutch Reformed Church that required brides to be pregnant to marry; if the baby came before the ceremony, it was just carried in the hood of Mommy's wedding cloak. Apparently the Germans exterminated them during the war.

In some rural parts of Scandinavia, even in the 19th Century many brides were often pregnant or already had given birth. Farmers have to make sure the heifer is fertile.

Apologies if I've offended anyone - but some traditional rural European cultures felt proving the bride fertile was far more significant than virginity. So the modern horror over the pregnant bride would have seemed strange to them. In most of Europe the closest thing to a "marriage" among most of the peasantry consisted of a blessing by the priest. More formal arrangements were restricted to those who had enough property to be concerned about inheritance.

In Scotland it was so a long time ago. This was to counter the custom that the occupying English commander had the right to any Scottish bride on the wedding night. It was a policy that was based in the idea of watering down the Scot genes with English ones to make the Highlanders more docile. This way with the bride pregnant she might not escape the attentions of the English but she could make sure she didn't have his child.

This is a deep discussion.... but here is my take on it. pie charts and graphs only depict the data collected... The first one looks like the US is not the biggest offender

In both cases the rest of the world also includes all the third world countries.... In order to Reduce consumption of oil World wide.... Everyone has to take part... Everyone.

Here is another kicker..... that single 42 gallon barrel of refined crude oil is used to make:
Asphault 3%
Liquified petroleum 4% (propane)
Jet fuel 10%
Other products18%
diesel 23%
and Gasoline. 47 %

Other products include everything that requires Hydrocarbons.... Like plastics. An interesting read.

the biggest way we can wean ourselves from Gasoline is to come up with better ways to create electricity. One way would be to re invest into Atomic energy.... Right now there is a company I used to follow which is building self contained Nuclear power plants. They call them Nuclear batteries. They are about the size of a hot tub And are capable of powering an estimated 20,000 homes.

Another way is to advance solar power.... scientists are also Working with better Solar power collectors. They are currently working on a 3D solar collector which will take sunlight from any direction.

LOL.... not me... I love this stuff. But maybe a different discussion list... There are no single solutions... There are always hundreds of ways to solve a problem sometimes it takes several different applications.

WE humans are on the brink of discovery.... Just think about How long have we had computers.... How long have we had gasoline engines..... How long have we had electricity... never mind on how to generate it. Just those things have only been with us what.... at most two hundred years... refering to electricity.

The human race used to double its knowledge every 100 years.... then it was shortened to 25 after world war Two.... and now we are doubling our knowledge every twelve months.... Thats globally...

Back when I got my first computer 1980 ish. It didnt have a hard drive. Good ole IBM 8088. It had two 5.25 floppy drives.... You loaded the operating system on boot up then pulled it out and loaded your software.... the other hard drive was file storage

The biggest hard drive out there was three megabytes and it weighed so much you had to move it with a forklift. I know a computer geek friend got one of the Union Tribunes old computers.... It was the size of a Volkswagen bus. Look at memory now.... I have a 500GB hard drive that is solid state. I wanted a terabyte but had to wait.

We have come so far.... but we as a human race have Aeons to go.... Hopefully we will grow out of this adolescence with maturity and a Proactive atitude.
